We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for an EMC Hardware Engineer within our Electronics Engineering team to help support our Automotive business.  Did you know we are the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of seating support and comfort systems for transportation manufacturers, as well as tier one and two suppliers within the automotive industry?  That’s right! As an EMC Hardware Engineer, you will have the opportunity to build products from beginning to end, working with most OEMs.  Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by researching, designing, and developing Embedded Software.  The team you will be working with is close-knit, and values supporting each other to be successful. 

 

We at Leggett & Platt Automotive are looking for an EMC Hardware Engineer to join our growing Automotive Team at our facility in Detroit, Michigan.  We are a multi-billion-dollar globally diversified company that designs and manufactures various engineered components and products. Our growing automotive business unit, which exceeds one billion dollars in sales, is comprised of four main product segments with operations on three continents.  Our customers include OEM and Tier 1 automotive companies.

 

In this role, you will report to the Electronics Core Product Development Engineering Manager and support the project team in research, design and development of electronic hardware focused on EMC design and validation.  This position will be on a Hybrid schedule.

 

What you will be doing as a Senior Hardware Engineer?

 

  • Promote company vision/mission, beliefs, behaviors and safety vision to team members and acknowledge team members evidencing support.
  • Work with product development group to develop electric/EMC test plan to validate automotive electric/electronic device for different automotive OEMs. This also includes participation in technical meetings with customers to clarify the requirement, to discuss technical issues, and to get the test plan approved.
  • Organize and support the execution of the electric/EMC tests according to the test plan to validate the product.
    • The tests include the measurement of radiated/conducted emissions/immunities by operating the EMI test Receiver, Spectrum Analyzer, test antennas, Digital Oscilloscope, Vector Network Analyzer, Signal Generators, and working in the Semi Anechoic Chamber.
  • Provide detailed electric/EMC test report per specific automotive customer requirement.
  • Perform investigation test in case of non-compliance, identify the source of emissions, and propose mitigation solutions.
  • Work with product development group, perform research, modelling, and simulation in the field of electromagnetics for EMC compliant design.
  • Perform design review of circuit design and PCB board layouts based on basic electrical/electronic engineering principles and propose possible solutions to mitigate EMC risks for new designs.
  • Responsible for writing, reviewing and verification of EMC test instruction, procedures, and reports.
  • Responsible for equipment validation and regular calibration.

 

 

We're looking for someone with:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred) with in-depth understanding of Maxwell equations.
  • Knowledge of high frequency technique, such as transmission line, impedance matching, reflection, standing wave, antennas, skin effect, proximity effect.
  • Experience with EMI test receiver, broad band testing antennas, LISNs. Working knowledge of EMC/EMI testing preferred.
  • Knowledge of frequency spectral analysis of different signals emanating from EM radiation devices.
  • Awareness of EMC design principles and proficient in troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication and organization skills.
  • Experience using electrical CAD tools such as ORCAD, Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, and PSPICE Simulators (schematic entry and layout design).

 

  • 5+ years of experience in an Automotive Embedded EMC Hardware Product Design/Validation.

 

  • Experience working with project launch cycles for automotive.

 

  • Knowledge of schematic design, layout design, design for EMC and engineering calculations and analysis (e.g. WCCA and simulations).

 

  • Knowledge of standard automotive communication bus hardware integration (e.g. LIN and CAN).
