Work Arrangement: Preference for the role is hybrid. This means the successful candidate will be working at a GM worksite three times per week, at minimum if you live within a 50-mile radius of a GM worksite. Remote consideration will be given for candidates residing outside southeast Michigan and is not expected to report to a GM worksite unless directed by their manager.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wireless RF Regulatory & Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and global regulations for wireless technologies. You will be comprehending and interpreting global RF Regulations, and partner with design teams to ensure compliance by design and testing outcome. Your expertise in understanding RF regulations, experience in working with regulatory conformance test methodologies, and in-depth knowledge of wireless technologies will be crucial in the role.

This position requires diverse set of people and technical skills to achieve GM business goals. Candidate will need to exercise independent and consistent team approaches in a creative, robust, efficient manner. The selected individual will be expected to provide technical leadership, foster innovation, facilitate communication, and inspire passion.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Global single point technical leader for understanding the regulations, assessing designs of the team, driving compliance procedures/test methodologies for wireless RF devices
  • Ensure compliance with FCC and global regulations for wireless technologies, including but not limited to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, NFC, Inductive Power Transfer
  • Stay updated on the latest FCC and global regulations, and emerging wireless technologies to ensure compliance and provide guidance to internal teams
  • Participate in industry forums and working groups to stay informed about regulatory developments and contribute to shaping industry standards
  • Interpreting regulations from different regulatory bodies, leveraging public policy & legal team as necessary in creating internal Advisories informing design teams
  • Provide technical expertise and support to resolve regulatory compliance issues
  • Conduct internal audits & assessments to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Provide risk assessments to leadership when RF devices are not successfully completing RF regulatory compliance testing at proper Vehicle Development milestones
  • Work with vendors, technology suppliers, and cross-functional staff to drive RF regulatory compliance
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate internal teams on wireless regulatory compliance and testing methodologies
  • Mentor/Coach RF engineers in all aspects of regulatory compliance engineering

Additional Description

Qualifications – Required : (Your Skills & Abilities)

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent
  • 10+ years academic background and/or experience in RF electrical engineering, EMC, wireless communications, signal processing
  • Experience with Wireless technologies, such as 5G, LTE, GNSS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Inductive Power Transfer
  • Strong knowledge of conducted and radiated test methodologies for evaluating EMC and RF performance of wireless devices
  • Experience with regulatory/industry conformance specifications (radiated, conducted, SAR) for consumer or automotive products
  • Experience or familiarity in wireless regulatory process, interpretation and defining methodologies for compliance
  • High level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are complex and difficult
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Qualifications – Preferred: (What Will Give You a Competitive Edge)

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in wireless regulatory compliance, specifically with FCC regulations, RED 2014/53/EU, or global regulations that cover radio apparatus & broadcasting equipment 
  • Experience working with telecommunication certification bodies such as TCBs and GMAs, or at the Federal Communications Commission
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements to ensure compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead multiple and complex assignments with the highest level of autonomy and accountability for results
  • Strong appetite for Technical leadership in a diverse, fast-paced product environment
  • Leadership experience (direct or indirect) of teams of engineers
  • Excellent personal interaction and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams

This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.

  • The salary range for this role $137,000 - $214,300. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
