Gallup Hill School is seeking an Elementary Special Education Teacher beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. The successful candidate will have experience teaching students with dyslexia and/or other literacy needs, and experience implementing structured literacy instruction. In addition, the candidate will have knowledge or experience implementing inclusive practices at the elementary level. This is for an anticipated opening.
Qualifications:
- Connecticut Special Education Certification required (165, 065 or 265)
- Advanced certification in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading or other equivalent experience preferred
- Strong understanding of students with reading disabilities, specifically dyslexia
- Knowledge of and experience teaching structured literacy to students
- Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and/or social development
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
- Demonstrated ability to write accurate and thorough assessment reports, IEP's and progress reports
- Ability to positively engage teachers, students and families in the learning process
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues to improve learning for all students
- Ability to use data to make instructional decisions
- Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals
- Strong case management skills
Salary and Benefits:
- Per the Ledyard Education Association agreement
Additional Duties:
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child
