Who will you be working with?
Vapor Stone Rail Systems is a part of WABTEC Corp and has been in Plattsburgh NY since 1998. We offer a wide range of products and services for trains including HVAC units, Doors, Door systems along with an array of aftermarket parts and services.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the team at Vapor Stone Rail Systems, you will be responsible for performing various job duties including but not limited to the following list. This position is responsible for his/her own quality of work and must meet company and ISO standards. The Electronics Technician's responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing electronics, reading manuals and installing new equipment, performing routine servicing and inspections, electrical testing and electronic upgrades, assisting with training, and working as a member of our production and operations team. Strong troubleshooting skills and problem-solving skills are essential for this position. The technician will also be required to occasionally conduct system installations as well as analyze blueprints/schematics and user manuals in order to learn new concepts and apply problem-solving skills to new systems.
- Test and implement electrical systems and products based on specifications.
- Repairs, installs, and inspects electronics or electronic systems as directed through verbal or written directions, diagrams, drawings, or specifications.
- Determines material or replacement needs and a logical method for repair; takes appropriate action to meet those needs and makes repairs.
- Monitor maintenance and inspection plans for tools used in respective work area.
- Perform system testing to evaluate performance and functionality.
- Recommend upgrades and modifications to improve system performance.
- Performs safety checks to ensure design plans are feasible in various conditions.
- Reports potentially dangerous electrical equipment to supervisor and takes steps to resolve the issue.
- Instructs employees regarding safe working procedures and requirements when working with electronic equipment and components.
- Develops and maintains records related to electronic and electrical equipment.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office programs and how to use them.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

What do we want to know about you?
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates should have knowledge of welding along with mechanical/ electrical assembly techniques. You should also have basic computer skills including Microsoft office.
EDUCATION:
- Associates degree in electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field required; electrical apprenticeships will be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in manufacturing setting preferred.
- Relevant experience in transit-vehicle systems, may include high voltage power conversion, passenger access controls, and HVAC controls.
What will your typical day look like?
- Working with team or self 100% onsite at Plattsburgh location. You will work in our electronics lab with a team of 2-3 other employees.
What about the physical demands of the job?
- Standing, bending, twisting for 8 hours per day
- Ability to lift & move 40lbs.
- Wearing PPE including but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, bump cap cut resistant gloves at various times based on current project.
- Safety glasses & steel/composite toe shoes are required for entirety of shift.
- Must successfully pass initial and random drug screenings.
- May require step stools or ladders.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role starts at $24 per hour. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location.
