Electrical Packaging Designers at Collins work directly with Packaging Engineers in the product groups to produce 3-D models and 2-D layout drawings of our electronic control units. Models and layouts show the complete definition of all components with consideration for manufacture and assembly. Our Designers are also responsible for creating and maintaining a complete bill of materials, using existing components where possible, to document the full and complete design. Ultimately, the Packaging Designer and detail drafters will document the components within the product assembly with detailed dimensioned drawings or with model-based definition to support the manufacture of individual parts.
Electrical Packaging Designers will be expected to conform to Collins Windsor Locks standards, norms and methods used in modeling so the documented design can be reviewed, analyzed and released in a manner consistent with established practice.
To support our customers on their high priority programs, there may be occasional need for weekend or extended hours work.

Primary Responsibilities:
The scope of work is for Electro/Mech packaging. That includes but is not limited to the following:

• Create Proposal Outlines and Layouts for customers.
• Create Proposal Envelope Solids in customer preferred formats.
• Contribute to estimating activities.
• Work with product line engineering for initial 2D concept of product
• Create solid model piece parts and housings in NX.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure correct fit and alignment
• Lead detailing drafters in the completion of component drawings for a design project.
• Execute Collins Standard Work using Design Standard Features and Design Guide Book as appropriate to complete the task.
• Contribute to product and process continuous improvement activities
• Installation, modeling and drawing
• End assy for flight and engine controls, models and drawings
• Chassis, models and drawings

  • Cables harnesses
  • Heatsinks/frames (vita compliant)
  • Sheetmetal
  • Detail part drawings/models
• CCA/PWB definition and defining IDX and/or eCAD definition drawings/models
• Working with the eCAD team for mech/elec data exchange
• Working closely with Mech and project engineering to define all of the above and create drawings
• Working with Siemens PLM and NX for modeling and drawings
• Continuation of current projects. Supporting new projects
• Support of existing products, engineering changes (CR's/CO's).
• Tolerance studies, needs to be an expert in GD&T. Y14.5 1986 to present.
• Commit to and meet program deadlines.
• Status team regularly on task performance and completion.
• Electrical Packaging Designers are expected to interface directly with Collins engineering staff in the design and development of product and/or test equipment. Individuals may be required to coordinate and interface with engineering and design or drafting personnel in other Collins divisions throughout the world. Accordingly, good interpersonal communication skills and willingness to operate within a diverse and global workforce are mandatory. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment, comprehend and implement oral and written inputs.
• Strict adherence to the design process is mandatory for successful realization of Collins product for our demanding customers. Attention to detail is critical to ensure a safe and reliable product is placed into service.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
• Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the design of complex assemblies or enclosures with many constituent components.
• Understanding of mechanical principles and experience reading and interpreting models, assembly and piece part drawings.
• Understanding of GD&T drawing practices, along with the tolerance analysis of assembly and piece parts.
• Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter
• Knowledge of drafting and PLM tools along with general computer literacy
• Manufacturing experience
