Job Description
Provides support to or leads the EI&C crews in the field. This includes but is not limited to collecting field data, assessing and trouble shooting pole line installations; installing power equipment enclosures; providing consultation for equipment wire and cable terminations; fixtures; sensing devices; trouble shooting control circuits; supporting start-up; testing, grounding installations, etc.
The incumbents performs a variety of duties related to installation, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair of industrial electrical equipment such as transformers, current sensing devices, motors and rotating machinery ranging from fractional to 250 HP, and from 0 to 480 Volts AC or DC. Electrician Reliability Specialist are expected to work with less than minimal supervision on medium and high voltage power and computerized control systems, used in the production, treatment, storage, transmission and distribution of oil and gas. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining knowledge and experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meet the qualifications for the next higher-level class.
Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of assigned tasks. The skill level required, and the complexity of assigned tasks is based on learned knowledge of Aera's equipment, systems, standards and procedures. Tasks, based on complexity, often require detailed systematic instructions, and require sound judgment and initiative.
Performs or supports Installation, operation, maintenance, testing, repair including preventive and predictive maintenance on a variety of industrial EI&C systems; conducts testing in accordance with NETA Standards. Implements change management (MOC) and asset management through TPR processes and SAP. Procure, repair, recalibrate, adjust and correct defects in electrical equipment used for power distribution, grounding, lighting, instrumentation and controls, and field-based networks and communications systems.
Based on higher levels of knowledge and experience replaces or changes and suggests replacement of power line hardware, circuit boards, power equipment and other components in computer-based control and data acquisition systems. Specifically, analyses, repairs, and replaces defective parts on powerlines, transformers, motors, generators, storage batteries, switchboards, starters, conductors, switches and other industrial electrical apparatus. Reviews Installations, maintains and repairs electromechanical, electronic and electrical components of equipment and machinery, including transformers, transfer switches, exciters, generators, compressors and pneumatic and hydraulic devices. Implements a complete process of preventative and predictive maintenance through SAP work orders and monitors their completion.
Works on 115/13.8kV power equipment; lightning protection systems; industrial AC/DC motors; 5kV motor controllers; 5kV motor control centers, 5kV switchgear, capacitors, power and lighting distribution panels and transformers. Works on uninterruptible power systems, cathodic protection rectifiers and grounding systems. Tests, troubleshoot, install, calibrate and performs preventive and predictive maintenance on a variety of complex electrical and electronic instruments and devices, these include programmable logic controllers (PLCs), data loggers, smart, soft start and FVNR motor control units, feeder/motor/transformer protection relays, reduced voltage auto-transformer starters, variable frequency/speed drives, smart starters and other electronic instrumentation equipment used to monitor and control oil, gas facilities.
Isolates, troubleshoot and resolves pole line and equipment and system failures, performs bench tests and repairs at the component level in a shop setting; calibrates equipment with such devices as frequency generators, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, meggers, amp meters, micro-computers, thermo-imaging devices, digital analyzers and other specialized test equipment. Tests solid-state circuitry to locate defective parts in analog and digital equipment; replaces defective parts.
Installs major upgrades and enhancements to existing EI&C systems and subsystems, including conduit, wiring, optical fiber, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers and switches. Installs motors, controls, transformers, exciters and generators up to 600 V and 200 hp; with minimal supervision, deenergizes equipment, performs up to 13.8kV rated cable terminations. Understands the differences between different types of cable voltage terminations and splicing. Utilize and conducts analysis with specialized testing equipment such as thermographic imaging, transformer oil analysis, motor testing, etc. Utilizes digital cameras to perform infrared surveys and analysis of electrical distribution systems and equipment, meggers, partial discharge testing, oscilloscope, time-domain-reflect-o-meters, etc. Utilizing the data from these tests prepares reports for the Electrical Supervisor or Engineers.
With management of change (MOC) process, modifies motor control equipment control circuits, including laying out and wiring the work; reads and interprets complex blueprints, P&ID's control and electronic schematics, instrument loop diagrams and wiring diagrams; upon completion of tasks, redlines modifications made to the system and keeps maintenance documents up to date. Supports the "as-built" documentation process. Plans and lays out work from instructions and/or work orders, using blueprints, sketches and drawings. Schedules and coordinates activities with other teams or groups.
Supports timely and accurate completion of preventive and predictive maintenance activities. Requisitions and utilize necessary tools, equipment and supplies based on equipment ratings. Reviews the research of new operational methods, techniques and equipment as recommended by subordinates and recommends their application.
Required Skills
  • Perform tests, diagnoses, calibrations and repairs on a wide variety of low, medium and high voltage electrical and electronic devices.
  • Theses include but are not limited to motors, transformers, generators, UPS, etc, utilized in the oil and gas production faculties.
  • Capable of using modern state-of-the-art diagnostic instruments, including laptops and other computer-based equipment, to test, calibrate, configure and repair complex electrical and electronic devices.
  • Ability to trouble shoot electrical equipment and wiring, identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work, read and interpret plans, specifications, manuals, circuitry/wiring and ladder logic diagrams, exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines, coordinate work assignments with other teams and operate and maintain wells and other electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Established record of effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors those encountered in the course of the work.
  • Continuous learning of EI&C trades through formal classroom education and field experience.
  • Compliance with all code, environmental and regulatory work processes, and procedures
  • Ability to trouble shoot power outages and repair and operate high voltage equipment
  • Compliance with the EI&C organization work and administrative processes and procedures
  • Quality conscious workmanship and testing ofEI&C installations to baseline equipment
  • Prepare and implement predictive and preventative maintenance processes
  • Complete ofall mandatory administrative and safety training
  • Initiative to advancethrough the EI&C Organization
  • Ability to mentor and teachcrafts with less experience
  • Ability to plan, schedule and execute work and electrical reliability process and procedures without supervision
  • Ability to develop people skills

Required Experience
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in industrial construction.
    • Hands on experience with industrial process systems, power distribution, lighting, grounding and controls systems, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and devices common to oil and gas industries or petrochemical and power industries.
