Job description

Red Dot Corporation, the leading producer of premium mobile HVAC units and components for heavy-duty commercial and military vehicles, is recruiting for the following position:

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Department: Advanced Test/Electrical Engineering

Reports to: Test Lab Manager

Summary Description:

The primary function of the Electrical Engineer is to develop electrical and electronic designs for company products and associated components. Leads or participates in the design, development, testing, and evaluation of electronic prototypes, products, and components. Documents design work and testing with schematics, drawings, diagrams, specifications, and written descriptions. Prepares projects schedules, keeps projects on schedule, and reports progress.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  1. Develops electrical and electronic designs for company products and components applying electrical engineering design principals.
  2. Develops and maintains embedded firmware using C and some assembly language code.
  3. Reviews product specifications to determine design approaches and limitations relative to configuration, size, performance requirements, ease of installation and repair, materials to be used, component interchangeability, cost, and customer or marketing requirements.
  4. Designs and develops prototype units using the available facilities of the test lab and prototype shop as well as outside vendors and resources.
  5. Prepares, verifies, and checks schematics, drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
  6. Determines testing criteria and designs trials and tests to evaluate prototype or product performance.
  7. Conducts or assists in conducting performance tests of prototype or production units. This may require field installation and testing, traveling, or overnight stays.
  8. Analyzes and documents test data and results in accordance with approved formats. Insures that performance specifications or standards are satisfied.
  9. Generates schedules for all phases of project development or design modification. Keeps lead or senior engineers informed of progress and deviation from project schedules through regular meetings.
  10. Participates in design planning, review, and evaluation for other team projects.
  11. Maintains current knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and develops new and innovative ideas and approaches based on progress in the industry.
  12. Other duties as assigned

Give regular updates to direct supervisor regarding progress and non-routine occurrences that may disrupt work schedule.
  • Ensure knowledge of the appropriate safety, security and environmental revisions. Handle relevant equipment with care, being concerned with safety and security. Immediately report safety concerns to Supervisor/Lead.
  • Ensure a professional appearance, use professional verbiage and maintain appropriate body language.
  • Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume regulated environment applying strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze issues, troubleshoot, problem-solve and effectively and efficiently make decisions.
  • Strong communication skills with external and internal personnel to include:
  • Active listening skills; ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical subjects to internal and external personnel.
  • Strive for clarity and for alleviation of tension when the need arises.
  • Able to be effective in a wide range of cultural groups and cross-cultural relationships and have the ability to communicate clearly to non-native speakers.
  • Able to work in a progressive, fast-paced environment and amongst multiple interruptions and competing demands.

Requirements

Level Requirements (Minimum):

Education

A BS degree in Electrical Engineering**

Experience

A minimum of two years experience in the design of analog and digital circuitry.

Capable of designing complex electrical systems.

Ability to draw schematics using AutoCAD, ORCAD or equivalent drafting software.

Ability to create and maintain firmware for Microchip PIC, Atmel AVR, and/or ST STM8 microcontrollers.

Capable of coordinating resources and personnel to complete projects on schedule.

Experience performing mechanical and electronic prototype assembly and troubleshooting preferred.

Writing ability sufficient to compose operating manuals and specification sheets.

Ability to clearly communicate with team members, vendors, and customers, as well as make presentations to management if necessary.

Capable of working under deadlines with minimal supervision

Sense of urgency, accountability and self-starter attitude.

**A combination of education, training, and experience, which has provided theoretical and practical knowledge, will be evaluated for equivalency.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to sit or stand at computer for extended periods of time

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Sufficient manual dexterity and motor control to use common drafting implements and calculators.

Red Dot Corporation offers the following total compensation package for this role:
  • Personal Time Off (PTO). Accruals set at 1.54 hours per pay period during the first year of employment totaling 40 hours at the end of the first year.

Salary Grade** for this role is as follows:

Min: $75,000/annual

Mid: $85,000/annual

Max: $95,000/annual

*Subject to all local, state and federal regulatory limits

** Salary grade levels and placement are all based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: applicable experience, education, skill set, market.
