WHAT THE ROLE DELIVERS 

This is an amazing opportunity to influence and be a part of the Bay City Plant startup team at our new state-of-the-art MMA production facility!

 

The Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Engineer provides support for the Röhm America Production Site in Bay City, Texas, Manufacturing Operation comprising the Formalin, MAL, MMA Reaction, and Purification plants, as well as Utilities. This role is responsible for all aspects of assigned engineering for the safe and efficient operation of process equipment. The I&E Engineer is responsible for the specification, design and maintenance of instrumentation, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC) and plant electrical systems. The I&E Engineer is also responsible for providing project deliverables and driving improvements within their area of expertise through implementation of appropriate engineering tools, technologies, and work processes, both as an individual and as part of the site engineering team. This role will additionally lead, develop, and/or contribute to improvements aligning closely with related functions within the organization.

 WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Support commissioning activities of new plant build.
  • Lead the technical design of I/E projects including technical review of design modifications and projects.
  • Ownership of all SIS Safety Instrumented Systems.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other consultants.
  • Communicate with external partners and internal resources to ensure the most current technologies are utilized.
  • Utilization of modeling and recommend solutions for I/E issues.
  • Provide electrical engineering technical support and troubleshooting for plant operating and maintenance departments.
  • Maintain expertise in assigned functional areas, for example, instrumentation, analyzers, power distribution, motors, etc.
  • Adhere to Safe design practices while focusing on identifying cost saving opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain Preventative (PM) and Predictive (PdM) Maintenance Plans for I/E equipment.
  • Actively participate in Process Safety Management work practices such as Management of Change (MOC) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
  • Support Capital Projects in scope development, detail design and execution.
  • Responsible for engineering and procurement specifications for equipment.
  • Applying technical knowledge, lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities and recommend corrective or preventive solutions including mitigation measures for deviations in Operations, QA, and Engineering processes. 
  • Apply data analysis techniques to develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect plant operations.
  • Provide technical assistance and procedural development for processes and equipment, including mentoring site Operations staff to ensure process adoption.
  • Develop and deploy digital operation tools and methods.
  • Prepare reports as needed summarizing the status of ongoing projects.
  • Ensure / support that adequate process related equipment maintenance systems and programs are in place and that such programs are operated in a safe and efficient manner and meet or exceed all regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain process related documentation (P&IDs, PFDs, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING  

  • Bachelor’s or more advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience within the Chemical or Process Industry, preferably in a chemical   manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical skills with ability to work collaboratively with other departments and international teams.
  • Must demonstrate a working knowledge of all applicable engineering principles and standards and their application.
  • Technical knowledge in Electrical Engineering with the ability to read, understand, and modify schematics and other manufacturing process documentation including P&IDs.
  • Experience ensuring safe and efficient low and medium voltage power distribution (13.8 KV, 2400V, 480V), within a heavy industrial process manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with PLCs and control systems (i.e., Siemens DCS, Emerson Delta V, etc.)
  • Knowledge of operating processes, equipment, and materials, as well as critical analysis skills are needed to effectively evaluate manufacturing performance and develop improvements.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Familiar with and the ability to learn SAP, process simulation tools and other process engineering applications such as Aspen and related applications.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with the ability and desire to utilize digitalization and new process methods.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to present detailed information across all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to organize and handle multiple projects and tasks to meet targeted completion deadlines.
  • Ability to work without guidance or supervision.
  • This position will follow a standard weekly schedule, however availability for weekend and holiday coverage during shutdowns and critical use periods may be required.
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders and ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed shoes, and hearing protection).
