The EHS Technician is responsible for promoting a safe work environment by developing and maintaining engaging safety programs that comply with all applicable regulatory agencies while staying aligned with the firm's long range, strategic needs. This position plays a key role in establishing policies.
When will you work?
The hours for this position will be dictated by business needs and will be Monday-Friday Day Shift on site in Swedesboro, NJ.
What you’ll do:
- Enhance Wedgewood workplace safety culture by motivating all areas of work force to contribute to continuous safety improvements.
- Promote engaging safety programs and supporting activities.
- Determine root causes of safety incidents and make recommendations for corrective actions
- Manage accountability and ensure the timely completion of actions uncovered in various safety inspections, audits and other programs.
- With support from all areas of business, create a proactive and engaging atmosphere to prevent safety incidents before they occur.
- Revise, develop and maintain safety programs and procedures to be compliant with applicable regulatory agencies including but not limited to OSHA, USP and the State of New Jersey.
- Facilitate interdepartmental Safety Committee Meetings.
- Empower Safety Committee members to be ambassadors to their represented areas.
- Encourage communications to and from areas represented by Safety Committee members to voice recommendations, concerns and requests.
- Review Wedgewood safety incidents, programs and other activities with the committee to promote interdepartmental engagement and communications.
- Meet routinely with Corporate EHS Manager to prioritize tasks, actions and projects.
- Act as Chemical Hygiene officer ensuring proper categorization, safe handling, labeling and transport of a wide chemicals used in compounding.
- Perform Respiratory fit testing for all compounding lab employees
- Provide safety orientation for new employees and reoccurring training for existing employees.
- Perform Risk Analysis on equipment, maintenance/construction activities and procedures.
- Perform monthly safety inspections. Work with area managers and develop policies and procedures to continuously limit risks and reduce incidents.
- Track weekly and annual Safety metrics and meet established goals set by Manager and Leadership.
- Perform particulate, chemical and noise monitoring to ensure safety and containment procedures are effective.
- Provide People Success with incident information to be reported to insurance provider and aid in employee guidance.
- Schedule and review building safety system inspections including sprinkler system, fire alarm and other safety equipment inspections.
- Maintain all safety related records as required by regulatory agencies and Wedgewood requirements.
- Proactively communicate with employees all safety related activities, issues or events to eliminate or minimize disruptions to the normal operations of the business.
- Assist Site GM in developing and maintaining safety related budget items.
- Other tasks as required.
Who you are:
- Basic computer skills with ability to learn new tools, programs and work processes
- Proficient with MS Office tools or equivalent (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Basic understanding of personal protective equipment, respiratory protection equipment and chemical hygiene and hierarchy of controls.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Bring positive, goal oriented and professional attitude
- Experience implementing and continuously revising policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of OSHA required safety programs.
- Ability to effectively communicate safety requirements to all staff positions and in verbal and written form.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and able to work productively across multiple departments
What you’ve done:
- Obtained an Associate degree in field with safety requirements such as engineering, chemical handling or bio-technology; or 1-2 years’ experience in a related field or Operations role.
- Relevant safety experience or certifications from accredited institutions are beneficial.
