Job Description
LOCATION: San Diego, CA.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position requires a knowledge of all aspects of Company employee environmental, health and safety (EHS), including but not limited to federal, state (CA, VA, WA, FL, HI) and local laws regulations and requirements, including but not limited OSHA, DOD, Navy safety requirements, and NAVSEA Standard Items and Local Work Instructions regarding the conduct of employee safety training and certifications and associated record keeping.
- In doing so, the Manager will assure that all Company EHS Policies are followed and that all employee workplace accidents and injuries are reported to the Department of Labor, Company’s Workers Compensation and Longshoreman and Harbor Workers Act Insurance Companies and those required by Contracts and assist in the investigation of such incidents, develop and issue required reports, arrange for the medical care of injured employees, and secure as needed safety PPE for use by the Companies employees and workers.
- The Manager shall assure that all Company Facilities and Worksites are safe and in compliance with applicable law, regulations, and Company EHS Policies and requirements. Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Develop controls for identified hazards. Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis. Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices, champion the safety culture, and perform operational assessments to review the effectiveness of the program.
- Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
- The Manager shall also be responsible for the hiring and training of safety professionals and safety competent persons to implement the Company’s EHS Program and to develop and conduct EHS training program, prepare for and conduct as appropriate safety surveillances, tool box training, safety standdowns, air quality tests, government and insurance safety audits, root cause analysis investigation, safety best practices and accident prevention activities, and such duties and responsibilities as the Company President may from time to time assign.
- Compile, analyze, interpret and report accident, loss, and exposure statistical data; prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards. Maintain appropriate safety and environmental documentation.
- Acts as the Company EHS subject matter expert and accompany OSHA and EPA compliance officers, local fire and safety inspectors, and insurance inspectors during audits for compliance with standards.
- The EHS Manager shall report directly to the Company President, but also shall work with all Company Divisions and Departments, including but not limited to the Marine Services, Marine Engineering and Cyber IT Divisions, as well as the HR and Finance Departments, as appropriate.
