Role Summary
Manages the full scope of health, safety and environmental programs. Responsible for the coordination of all Health and Safety policies, procedures, education, and training for both salary and hourly employee groups. Provides information and guidance to Supervisors, Managers, and employees on HS&E matters as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct job-based Physical Demand Assessments, Job Safety Analysis, and Ergonomic Risk Assessments to determine safety and ergonomic risks.
• Develop and maintain a communication network amongst the Emergency services in the community.
• Participate in the Health and Safety portion of New Hire Orientation.
• Perform workplace inspections.
• Stay knowledgeable and up to date with regulations that affect the division.
• Maintain OSHA 300 log and post annual summary when necessary.
• Chair plant Safety and Health Committee.
• Oversee facility noise conservation program and related records and documentation.
• Cooperate with outside inspectors and auditors (TS/ISO, OSHA, Magna, etc.) when necessary.
• Serve as Environmental Management Representative for ISO 14001and OSHAS 18001 requirements.
• Advise employees of the existence of known, potential, or actual danger to the health or safety of the employee.
• Oversee the administration of the worker's compensation program.
• Understand responsibility for health and safety in the workplace, including responsibility for visitors and general public in the workplace.
• Complete all accident reports and investigations in timely manner.
• Report and/or correct unsafe acts and work conditions in timely manner.
• Coordinate training for both hourly and salary workforce.
• Participate in monthly all employee meetings.
• Conduct investigations in regard to employee complaints and/or discipline
• Provide referral and counseling regarding the Employee Assistance Program
• Administer and ensure compliance with the Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety, and Materials Management System requirements as outlined in the policy manuals.
• Prepare and participate in Corporate and Third Party Safety and Environmental audits.
• Use appropriate PPE and ensure employees are wearing appropriate PPE when necessary.
• Cooperate with outside inspectors and auditors (TS/ISO, OSHA, Magna, etc.) when necessary.
• Enforce safety and shop rules fairly and consistently.
• Advise employees of the existence of known, potential, or actual danger to the health or safety of the employee.
• Facility employee safety training such as forklift certification, fall protection, hazard communication, and etc.
• All other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• HS Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health preferred, or equivalent experience.
• Must have extensive knowledge of the OSHA and regulatory compliance.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills to all team members and roles at the facility.
• Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems and issues by using judgment that is consistent with Magna standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, or government law.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management staff, employees, and corporate personnel.
• Must be able to interface with all departments.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk and hear.
• Employee must occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE.
• Must have valid driver's license.
