Position Summary Information

Summary
As a member of Information Technology, the Education Technology Specialist’s primary responsibilities are to provide technical expertise to students, faculty, and staff for NEOMED’s portfolio of learning technologies including both on premise and cloud-based environments, supporting instruction needs within on-campus and online classrooms, and supporting the development and creation of university audio/video content. This position will be focused on positive, responsive, and customer-service oriented interactions that support NEOMED’s collaborative and team-based approach to delivery of services to students, instructors, and staff. Additionally, this position will be responsible for identification, recommending, implementing, and maintaining technology solutions that bolster educational program designs that are focused on learner success while supplementing internal leadership on information security, risk and/or compliance efforts.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
1) TEACHING, LEARNING, ANDTECHNOLOGYOPERATIONS – Support the operations of applications such as third-party hosted educational applications for use by students, faculty, and staff. Support could include troubleshooting, configuration, access provisioning, and reporting. Implement process, procedures, and controls to ensure operability of services and provide a highly available, secure, and robust technology infrastructure that is compliant with all policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices including data privacy and other security concerns. Participate in the evaluation, testing, implementation, and procurement of new systems and/or participate in testing and implementation of software releases that impact the Information Technology suite. Regularly communicate with internal leadership and advisory groups to assess efficacy of systems and discuss improvements and new features. Leverage stakeholder and constituency groups to ensure service communications are transparent and timely. Document, coordinate, and analyze interactions with students, faculty, and staff regarding their requests and incidents to make sure resolutions are complete. Uses the information to identify widespread problems and/or areas for process improvement. Develop, maintain, and facilitate access to documentation for academic systems.
2) TEACHING, LEARNING, ANDTECHNOLOGYSUPPORT - Provides first and second level support for teaching and learning focused technology; Provides support for the technology in lecture halls, multidisciplinary labs, and smart rooms throughout the university campus including videoconferencing applications. Serves in a support role to classrooms on campus following a needs basis and technician availability. Answer questions, solve technical problems, and ensure effective escalation of issues and requests associated with students, faculty, staff, and external vendors.
3) TEACHING, LEARNING, ANDTECHNOLOGYRESEARCH & ADVOCACY – Research, evaluates and recommends instructional technologies, software applications and best practices; stays current with new and emerging technologies that support teaching and learning activities. Research and develop business cases for the use of academic technologies that improve the student experience, improve delivery of learning objectives, provide access to all potential students, allow programs to develop and scale more effectively. Advocate for student and faculty perspectives when resolving issues or implementing changes.
4) AUDIO/VIDEOPRODUCTIONANDDIGITALCONTENTCREATION - Supports the development and creation of video and audio academic and University promotional materials. Produces studio quality media (video and on-demand video) for students, faculty and staff requiring professional productions. Includes audio and visual computerized processes to provide high level educational, recruiting, historical and scientific/research representation. Produces, edits, and manages content for University functions not limited to promotional material, philanthropic events, campus events, student events, graduation, Match Day, White Coat, Campus updates, and other professional recorded, edited, and live-streamed events.
5) TEACHING, LEARNING, ANDTECHNOLOGYTRAININGAssist internal leadership in improving the quality of teaching, learning, and technology knowledge across all departments’ university wide, including the development of support strategies and materials to enhance faculty and staff effectiveness. Collaborates with IT staff in the development and delivery of workshops to introduce faculty, staff and students to current, and emerging instructional technologies and their effective application in teaching and learning.
6)INFORMATIONSECURITY, COMPLIANCE, RISKANDOTHERDESKTOPSUPPORTSupport internal leadership with information security, risk, compliance, and desktop support efforts, which can include contributing to policies and procedures related to data security, privacy, risk, and incident response. Assist members of the NEOMED Help Desk with hardware/software/account requests.

Qualifications
Education/Degrees: Bachelor’s degree in Educational Media, Instructional Technology or related field.

Experience:
  • Minimum of one year of experience in information/academic technology in an educational or corporate setting. Three years of experience preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience (three years preferred) with supporting academic technology systems; this can include:
    • Learning Management Systems such as Instructure Canvas
    • Third party applications and tools used in learning environments (Zoom, Echo360).
  • Experience with audio/visual production and digital content creation preferred.

Key Skills, Personal Characteristics, and Key Competencies
  • Education experience including demonstrated experience working in an environment with colleagues of diverse backgrounds and customs and ability to interact effectively with members of the academic community.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office/Office 365, Canvas, ScreenPal, Zoom, PointSolutions, and Echo360 preferred
  • Working knowledge of streaming video technology preferred
  • Proficient in the use and knowledge of current classroom technologies
  • Technical proficiency with MAC and PC operating systems and hardware
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team providing timely, high quality services.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines on an on-going basis.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all technical levels.
  • Be extremely customer-service oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift/carry 25 lbs. of audio-video equipment.

Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
