Overview:

HarperCollins Children’s Books is currently seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide support for the Greenwillow Books imprint. Since its inception in 1974, Greenwillow Books has been publishing a select, author-driven list of books full of honesty, emotion, and depth for children ages birth to eighteen. In this position you will assist the VP/Publisher, Executive Editor, and Art Directors. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is knowledgeable and passionate about children’s books, and is creative, dedicated, highly organized, and enthusiastic.

This is a hybrid position based out of our New York office.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides administrative and editorial support to the VP/Publisher and Executive Editor.
  • Drafts correspondence, memos, P&Ls, contract requests, and process payments.
  • Drafts title sheet copy, catalog copy, selling copy, and flap copy as needed and crafts keywords and metadata.
  • Reads and evaluates manuscript submissions and drafts reader’s reports and rejection letters.
  • Assists with information flow and department’s communication with authors, agents, internal departments, and other team members.
  • Participates in team meetings.
  • Provides support to Art Directors including tracking and scanning artwork and assisting in art check and presentations.
  • Assists Art Directors in searching for images, artists, portfolios, and other materials.
  • Assists in scanning artwork and in preparing books for the printer as needed.
  • Assists in fact-checking, indexing, and permissions clearing as needed.
Qualifications:
  • College-level degree or equivalent work experience required
  • At least one year of prior experience in relevant coursework and/or internships
  • Proven ability to organize and set priorities under pressure
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, PhotoShop, and InDesign
  • Must have an understanding and awareness of general marketplace, industry, and current books
  • Strong interest in books for children, especially picture books and middle grade novels
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively

The salary for this position is $48,500. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
