About the Role:

The Wall Street Journal’s Opinion section is looking for an assistant editor to join our Editorial Features team. The Editorial Features department accepts and edits approximately two dozen op-ed articles per week. This position requires evaluating dozens of unsolicited submissions weekly and either turning them down or recommending acceptance; maintaining relationships with past contributors and soliciting op-eds from them in response to breaking news; editing op-eds and preparing them for print, online and social media; doing research to assist other editors; suggesting ideas for op-eds and occasionally contributing to the op-ed pages, in particular the Weekend Interview. This position will be based in our New York office.

You Will:

  • Evaluate unsolicited op-eds and provide recommendations to senior editors to either accept or reject the submissions
  • Commission op-eds in response to breaking news

  • Edit selected op-eds for publication

  • Provide research to assist other editors

  • Pitch content ideas and occasionally contribute bylined articles to the op-ed pages

  • Participate in editorial board meetings

You Have:

  • College graduate with at least 2+ years editing experience, preferably with an emphasis on political and economic content.
  • Sound editorial judgment.

  • It is essential that candidates be familiar with the ideas, philosophy and principles for which The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page stands.

  • Flexible to do weekend/evening work as required.

  • High level of proficiency in writing, copy-editing and proofreading.

  • The ability to work under deadline pressure.
