Job Overview/Purpose:
Rabobank is looking for a Senior Specialist to support its ambition to be the leading Energy Transition bank in North America. The Senior Energy Transition (ET) Specialist will complement Rabobank's rapid expansion into the renewable/alternative energy space, and support both clients and the bank in their Energy Transition journey. The Senior Specialist will lead a variety of research projects with the aim of generating insights that make a difference. Tasks include gathering information and data, analyzing markets and companies, preparing presentations and reports and leading strategic discussions with clients and internal stakeholders. The analyst will develop, build, share and apply knowledge on subjects relevant to ET to support the bank's commercial activities in renewable/alternative energy and bring commercial value to clients.
The ET Specialist will be operating in a dynamic, demanding, and 'start-up' like environment. Flexibility, self-discipline and motivation, analytical skills, creativity, and a co-operative and proactive attitude will be key for success in this role. In addition, being a team player with a growth mindset will be crucial for this role.
The Energy Transition is an instrument to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and secure affordable, reliable low-carbon energy for all. The Energy Transition is also one of the transitions in scope of Rabobank's global strategy. And we want to move forward rapidly! Rabobank aspires to be the "Banker of the Energy Transition", expanding our scope in North America.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
The main task of the ET Specialist is to become the go-to person for questions related to the Energy Transition in general and to the specific sectors (e.g., solar), technologies (e.g., storage) or topics (e.g., policies) that the analyst will become responsible of. The more specific tasks can broadly be summarized as:
- Conducting research and building expertise and views in the designated areas and industry dynamics
- Co-organizing knowledge sharing internally, for example workshops and contributions to the team's weekly newsletter
- Providing commercial support. This can take on many forms, for example: review/comment on business plans, present to clients, join client meetings as an expert, join deal teams, support senior management
- Providing support to risk/the credit risk process
- (Pro)actively participating on ET sector platforms and in other internal and external networks
- Developing and utilizing his/her existing and future network to help speed up the development of knowledge of the entire ET Analyst team and to generate leads for the bankers
- Supporting building Rabobank's brand as the Banker of the Energy Transition, for example through publishing thought-provoking articles, presenting at conferences, engaging with the media, profiling on LinkedIn
Job Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience with research or consulting in an academic, business or consulting environment
- Knowledge of one or more relevant ET sectors and topics, such as :
- General ET
- Wind, solar, or distributed energy
- Battery storage
- Waste-to-energy/renewable natural gas
- E-mobility
- CC(U)S
- Other technologies
- Relevant policies, laws, and regulations
- Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a pleasant, convincing, and effective way with a broad range of stakeholders from different hierarchical levels, cross-team collaborations, types of companies, and nationalities
- Strong communicator:
- In writing articles, social media posts, etc
- In presentations for C-suite and large audiences
Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in a relevant field like electrical, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or environmental science
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience
- A proven track record/expertise with relevant ET topics
- A strong network with public and private institutions
- Work experience from a corporate, industry body, consulting company or academics with a focus on one or more relevant ET sectors and topics like:
- General ET
- Wind, solar, or distributed energy
- Battery storage
- Waste-to-energy/renewable natural gas
- E-mobility
- CC(U)S - Carbon Capture (Usage) Storage
- Other technologies
- Knowledge of relevant policies, laws, and regulations

Salary Expectations:
Target Hiring Range: $190,000 - $250,000
This position is subject to the terms of Rabobank's compensation plans and policies. It is anticipated that the position will pay within the target hiring range. The range is reflective of the desired primary physical work location and may be adjusted outside of the projected range based on geographical differentiation if the actual work location of the hired candidate differs from the desired primary location, or for other lawful reasons. Further, the position includes all other benefits provided to Rabobank employees, including healthcare benefits, 401k matching, vacation, sick leave, parental leave, possible discretionary bonuses and all other benefits that are all governed by and subject to ERISA plan documents and eligibility.
