We are currently in search of an ED Coding Manager to join our dynamic team. As the ED Coding Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations of our coding team, specifically focusing on the Emergency Department coding processes. Working closely with leadership, you will ensure that coding goals are achieved while maintaining accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the accurate and timely coding of Emergency Department encounters.
2. Collaborate with ED healthcare professionals to ensure proper documentation and coding practices.
3. Provide leadership and guidance to a team of medical coders.
4. Monitor coding productivity and accuracy.
5. Stay abreast of coding guidelines and regulations, implementing necessary updates and changes.
6. Review and appeal denied claims, ensuring maximum reimbursement for services rendered.
7. Maintain compliance with facility and professional coding standards.
8. Provide training and support to coding staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
9. Conduct complete annual performance reviews for coding team members.
10. Manage scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow.
11. Implement Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) when necessary to address performance issues effectively.
Qualifications:
- Previous Coding Management experience required.
- Current coding certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC; RHIA and/ or CCS preferred. HIM experience will be accepted in lieu of a certification from AHIMA or AAPC.
- Fluent in multiple EHR’s (i.e., EPIC, Meditech, Cerner, etc.).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical coding, with a focus on Emergency Department coding and 5 years in management or a leadership position.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
