Job description

This position is located at Deer Lodge Medical Center in Deer Lodge, Montana. We are a growing Critical Access Hospital that believes in person centered care as a Gold designated member of the Planetree Network.

POSITION: Registered Echo Tech

DEPARTMENT: Diagnostic Imaging

RESPONSIBLE TO: Radiology supervisor and the administration.

STANDARD HOURS WORKED: Regular business hour shifts. Full time position. Position would travel to other facilities to cover patient care needs 2-3 days/week.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Reg. Echo Tech performs quality echocardiographic studies as ordered by the physicians as well the performance of all other non-invasive cardiac procedures within the department. These services embrace the mission at Deer Lodge Medical Center by providing high quality health care for the people in the communities we serve.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited non-invasive cardiovascular training program, with a focus in echocardiography
  • Satisfactory completion of a recognized course in arrhythmia detection
  • Six months experience as a registered echocardiography tech
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required
  • Must have the ability to perform quality and complete echocardiogram studies an possess excellent organizations skills to perform the duties that are required
  • Must have adequate experience under a cardiologist and qualified physicians
  • Must have good working knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Use and understand basic principles of the PACS unit and electronic medical record.
  • Must be able to understand variations of anatomical postures and effects on any disabled patient
  • Must possess sufficient knowledge to deal with all types and conditions of patients.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety policies and procedures as they relate to job duties and risk management
  • Demonstrates safe work practices appropriate to position, i.e., how to report a safety hazard, proper body mechanics, or use of personal protective equipment
  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize the appropriate lines of communication when concerns arise
  • Demonstrates competence in performance of echocardiographic studies
  • Performs echocardiographic studies considering the age-specific physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of the patient
  • Consistently performs quality Doppler and color Doppler Exams
  • Acquires quality Stress Echo and Dobutamine images according to Physician and benchmark standards (post exercise image acquisition at 60 seconds or less)
  • Performs quality Trans esophageal echocardiograms according to physician expectations
  • Interpretation, reporting, communication, and documentation of studies
  • Demonstrates understanding of cardiac disease processes in order to obtain complete acquisition of images for clinical diagnosis by the reading cardiologist
  • Reports pertinent information or changes of patient’s condition to physician, nurse and/or supervisor/senior tech incorporating age-specific information
  • Has a basic understanding of acquired images
  • Reports findings or concerns to reading physician for prompt interpretation
  • Records preliminary interpretation of studies on patient worksheet incorporating age specific information. Documents patient information and processes reports accurately and timely
  • Notifies the reading cardiologist of any referral studies to be read
  • Performs all related processing required for each completed study
  • Educates patients and/or patients’ family regarding procedures performed and communicates effectively with patient and/or family
  • Uses the Patient Care Information System with accuracy to enter patient charges
  • Uses equipment and departmental resources appropriately
  • Maintains equipment including cleaning and disinfecting according to department procedure
  • Identifies problems with equipment and notifies appropriate resources for diagnosis and repair and assists with evaluation of new equipment.
