Job description

SUMMARY

Plans, organizes and implements the care, development and education of typically and atypically developing infants, toddlers and preschool children ages birth to five.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  1. Plans and implements educational curriculum for infants, toddlers and preschool children, which reflects developmental, cultural, and linguistic appropriateness.
  2. Ensures compliance with applicable company policies and procedures and any of the following program regulations as they apply to the specific program assigned to: Early Head Start, Head Start, CDE, First 5 LA, Title 5 regulations and Title 22 Community Care Licensing regulations.
  3. Ensures proper care and supervision for each and every child at all times and adheres to the standards of conduct. Ensures the classroom and all equipment is maintained in a clean and safe condition.
  4. Conducts home visits each year as required by funding source.
  5. Records observations, shares information about the child with his/her parent(s) and/or CII staff and plans with them on how best to meet the child’s needs.
  6. Communicates with parents daily, verbally or in writing, regarding the physical care and development of the child.
  7. Completes and submits incidents reports as necessary. Maintains absolute confidentiality regarding children and their families in compliance with HIPAA regulations and company policy.
  8. Maintains daily records of each child’s attendance, health and behavior, reports of suspicions of child abuse or neglect and communicates this information to appropriate content area specialists or Family Service Workers.
  9. Maintains working knowledge of current practices in the early childhood education filed through reading, participation in seminars and other education opportunities and personal contacts/memberships in the field.
  10. Utilizes data from DRDP outcomes and other program data to individualize lesson plans to best benefit the child.
  11. Adheres to family-style meal requirements. Ensures meal counts are recorded at the point of services.
  12. Develops and maintains strong and caring relationships with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and parents.
  13. Completes objective ongoing observations to support assessments and portfolios. Tracks child’s development, individualized education plans, and lesson plans.
  14. Establishes a climate of acceptance that supports and respects gender, each child’s individual personality, physical characteristics and traits, culture, language and ethnic characteristics, family structure and developmental needs and behaviors.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Early Head Start Teacher: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field with a minimum of 24 units of ECE course work from a four-year university preferred.
  • Prior experience working with infants and toddlers is preferred.
  • Three semester units in infant and toddler development, with a total of six units within the first year of employment with CII required.
  • A valid first aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain one within the introductory period.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated skill in curriculum development and modification for children birth to five years.
  • Prior experience with children and families from diverse cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum.
  • Ability to satisfy Title 22 requirements for a Teacher.
  • A valid first aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain one within the introductory period.
  • Spanish / English bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Maintains patient privacy, including protecting the confidentiality, safeguarding the integrity and availability, and limiting the use and disclosure of patient Protected Health Information (PHI) to authorized individuals and entities.
  • Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
  • Sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Punctual and dependable attendance.
  • Free from alcohol and drug abuse.
  • Understands CII’s basic philosophy and participates fully in carrying out its mission.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Teacher Permit or higher issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

CONTINGENCIES:

  • Covid-19 Vaccine and booster - Due to the recent mandate issued by The Governor’s Office and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), all CII staff must be vaccinated against Covid-19 by date of hire. 
  • Compliance with the organization’s requirements surrounding influenza, MMR, and TDAP immunizations.
  • Background fingerprint clearance from the California Department of Social Services.

    COMPENSATION:

    • The salary for this role is $55,640 per year. ($26.75 per hour)
    • In accordance with CA law, the expected pay range for this CA position is posted with this position.  The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
