Early Head Start Child Development Coordinator
Reports To

Job Purpose and Focus
Responsible for coordination and supervision of programming related to the education and early childhood development service areas, assuring that all teaching staff integrate required program components in accordance with the Head Start program performance standards and state of Michigan licensing.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
  • Possess one of the following: BA/BS in Early Childhood Education
  • MA/MS/M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • Ability to plan and coordinate effectively with other professionals
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated initiative and understanding in working with staff, and parents/guardians
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training
  • Ability to function within board policies and procedures with a minimum of supervision
  • Professionalism and strong work ethic
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality in relationships with faculty, parents and the general public
  • Respect for confidentiality and integrity

Essential Functions and Representative Duties
  • Must have working knowledge of Licensing rules and regulations along with the QRIS system and possess the credentials to hold the center license.
  • Work in cooperation with other support staff and parent council to provide direction and monitoring of the C-A EHS teaching staff and program volunteers.
  • Review all lesson plans on a regular basis to provide insight and assistance as needed.
  • Assist with ongoing monitoring and evaluation of progress made by children and to provide for continuous program development and improvement.
  • Plan, coordinate and direct all Early Head Start program activities related to the Child Development service area.
  • Ensure integration of all required program components including health, nutrition, social service and parent involvement with the Head Start Program Performance Standards and program guidelines.
  • Develop, revise annually and monitor the implementation of the Early Head Start Child Development policies and procedures.
  • Support and mentor all teaching staff through observations/constructive feedback to ensure effective implementation of the HSPPS and High Scope curriculum.
  • Support the planning and implementation of infant-toddler playgroups and parent discussion groups/parent education meetings.
  • Model for staff, parents, students and volunteers appropriate, positive, nurturing and effective behaviors in working with young children.
  • Serve on CAEHS, district and or community-based committees as appropriate to areas of responsibility.
  • Provide leadership for professional learning community groups/professional development.
  • Provide feedback and support to all staff within the annual self-assessment process and assist with the development of each person's individual professional development plan.
  • Coordinate and document staff training opportunities/participation as aligned with individual professional development plans.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, tracking as needed for quality programming and submit these in a timely manner.
  • Monitor program equipment/materials for repairs/replacements as needed and maintain up-to-date classroom inventories.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment
Salary and benefits in accordance with the Carman-Ainsworth federal programs salary schedule, work experience and education will be considered. This position is a non-union position for 48 weeks 160-185 days per year.
Work Environment
Work is normally performed in a typical school building and/or office environment. There is limited exposure to physical risk. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Must be able to work toward district goals.
