GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
IRCO's Workforce Development Sector of 45+ staff provides culturally appropriate career services and wrap-around supports to immigrants, refugees, and the community at large so that they can reach their full potential. Career Coach staff provide skills coaching, career exploration, and career plan development for targeted industries to participants with the goal of securing career track employment and livable wages.
The Preschool for All program provides skills coaching, career planning, tuition assistance, support services, and job search assistance to individuals who want to enter a career, or continue their education, in Early Childhood Education in Multnomah County. Career Coach will guide participants in increasing their level on the ORO (Oregon Registry Online) through personalized career plans which may include degree or certificate pathways, college courses, or community-based trainings. This staff will assist in ongoing virtual and in-person outreach to Portland Metro area network, community members, and community colleges. This position is highly collaborative and requires strong communication and organizational skills. In addition to direct service, Career Coach will be responsible for documenting services, payments, and case notes daily.
CAREER COACH ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Engage participants in Career Planning to identify strengths, gifts, and capacities, develop goals and concrete strategies for addressing barriers to employment.
  • Provide continuous and enhanced life skills training, soft skill development and Career Coaching to help participants build employability and life skills.
  • Link eligible and ready clients to other IRCO resources and partner resources.
  • Provide ongoing job search and placement support.
  • Maintain accurate records, data tracking and narratives to reflect project activities.
  • Provide retention and advancement support once participant has entered employment.
  • Provide ongoing outreach and recruitment to culturally and geographically diverse immigrants, refugees, and the community at large facing barriers to employment who reside throughout the Portland Metro Area
  • Prepare quarterly report of services based on data entry and program activities.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Attending trainings and meetings conducted as part of the Preschool for All initiative.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and committees to support Preschool for All programs and agency's goals.
  • Interacting with staff in other IRCO programs and community partners, and referring clients to these parties

Requirements
JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have the ability to function in a positive manner in a demanding work environment.

  • Strong ability to multi-task and meet multiple, sometimes conflicting deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and can use other software packages including internal and external e-mail/internet.

  • Ability to deal with distressed and/or demanding customers and employees in an effective manner.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Listen for understanding and assist in problem solving.
  • Communicate with a variety of personality types and levels of the organization as well as with persons outside of the organization.
  • Must have excellent grammar, spelling and writing skills.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing to individuals and groups and by telephone.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Must be punctual, maintain a good attendance record, and be able to work flexible hours to meet the availability of participants and customers.
  • Able to use basic office equipment, telephone, copier, fax machine, and personal computer.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, drive, talk on the telephone and/or use PC for long periods of time.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and verification of current auto-insurance and have full use of automobile during work hours.

KNOWLEDGE:
Education: Bachelor's Degree (4); or Some College (2) + combination of relevant experience
Experience: 1-2 years of experience is required (3) Previous experience in Career Coaching, college advising, Early Childhood education/early learning or related field desired.
Licensure, Certification: Additional Language Required: English Required, 2nd language preferred
Computers: All positions at IRCO require use of a computer and experience working with Microsoft Products including but not limited to Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
SKILLS:
Communication: Some interaction with those inside and outside the organization to exchange factual information (3)

EFFORT:
Mental: There is minimal variation in tasks. The job holder is free to determine in which order tasks are completed, however cannot choose to not complete a task (2)
Physical: Positions at this level require minimal physical effort such as light lifting, carrying or movement, etc. Physical capability involves use of office or equipment where some agility and hand eye coordination is needed (2)
RESPONSIBILITY:
Impact and Influence: Minimal need or ability to analyze problem or concepts or make decisions on the information. Dollar amounts influenced would be considered small. Responsibility for the prudent use of assets does not extend beyond own work responsibilities. (2)
Work Independence: Encouraged to suggest ways for handling these, but are not granted the latitude to take final action. (2)
Planning: Positions at this level have little to no planning responsibility beyond the need to schedule own work and determine impediments to own work schedule. (1)
Supervision: Positions at this level are not responsible for any supervisory functions or responsibilities, but may occasionally be asked to orient and/or train new employees or volunteers. (1)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment: There is a moderately low level of personal risk encountered. Job conditions are occasionally uncomfortable relative to noise, temperature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, or interactions with angry or hostile people (3)
Schedule: The work schedule is stable and does not fluctuate. (1)
