Job description

FUNCTION:
Provides a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, language, communication, literacy, and physical skills. May lead and functionally supervise teacher's aides or assistants. Klamath Falls City School District expects teachers to be aware of and maintain "The competent educator standards" found in the Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-0010).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following are examples of primary duties; but may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform.
  • Organizes and provides developmentally appropriate Early Childhood Education programs; plans and implements curriculum and education for children ranging in age from 3 years to 5 years old.
  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing children with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers, under supervision, first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding, toileting, diapering, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for children as assigned.
  • Leads, trains, and supervises educational assistants, student teachers, and/or volunteers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Monitors students' behavior/activities in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing them to appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborating with program staff, families, agencies, physicians, and community partners in a relationship-based organization for the purpose of improving the overall quality of child outcomes.
  • Writes and compiles individual assessments of each child's development; completes daily inventories, child attendance, and related reports.
  • Assesses the child's progress toward objectives and/or goals (e.g. social-emotional development, motor development, adaptive skills, language development, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to parents, teams, and/or administration.
  • Participates in professional development concerned with improvements in Early Childhood teaching methods, as appropriate.
  • May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. newsletters, attendance records, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. suspected child abuse, injuries, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of children, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
  • Fulfills performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hold or qualify for an Oregon teaching license; or, possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, special education or a related field; or, hold current registration with Oregon Resistry Online (ORO) as a Step 8 ORO.
  • Familiarity with state standards and curriculum frameworks.
  • Knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
  • Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work.
  • Ability to direct the work of other staff members.
  • Perform duties in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff, students, and the public and enhances learning.
  • Maintain regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedule.
  • Observe laws, district policies and procedures, and professional standards for this position.
  • Respect confidential information and the privacy of students, staff, and parents.
  • Support students and staff in the district's career-related learning standards to encourage the development of independent work skills through career exploration and community involvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with children, families, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries from children and families.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
  • General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, e-mail, internet software, spreadsheets, and word processing software (Google Docs, Forms, Calendar, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Hold a valid Oregon Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.
  • Abide by Teacher Standards and Practices Commission "Standards for Competent and Ethical Performance of Oregon Educators" (OAR 584-020-0000).
  • Knowledge of birth to five years typical and atypical developmental benchmarks
  • Ability to develop "family-friendly" Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP's)
  • Awareness and/or experience with standardized and curriculum-based assessments for typical and atypical development;
  • Ability to utilize appropriate technology and computer systems;
  • Expectation to participate in ongoing professional development opportunities; Complete required paperwork within the timeframe set by program administration
  • Comply with Central Background Registry requirements through the Early Learning Division

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent or prolonged standing, walking and sitting.
  • Possibly moderate to high noise level.
  • Frequent and prolonged talking/listening in conversations/meetings.
  • Requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, and depth perception.
  • Requires handling and working with a variety of materials and objects.
  • Work may occasionally involve lifting/carrying objects weighing 15-25 pounds.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student injury or illness.
  • Exposure to a variety of chemicals comprising instructional and cleaning materials.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position is primarily performed indoors in school buildings, although some outdoor instruction and supervision may be required.
  • This position involves working in close proximity to groups of students and adults.
  • Evening and/or extended work hours may be required.

SALARY/BENEFITS:
  • $43,373.32 - $89,454.48 dependent on experience and education level (per KFEA Salary Schedule) Prorated based upon start date.
