DSHS Yakima Valley Attendant Counselor Manager
Yakima Valley School, a Residential Habilitation Center, located in Selah, WA is looking for a temporary Attendant Counselor Manager to join our team of professionals. Yakima Valley School operates as a state-run Nursing Facility. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a designated living area on a 24/7 basis.
This position supervises all Attendant Counselors (NACs) assigned to the unit. You'll interact with residents in a residential living atmosphere, providing care and engaging in therapeutic activities on and off campus. You'll partner with residents and their guardians, members of the interdisciplinary team in creating the resident's Individual Plan of Care (IPOC), providing choices in all areas of their lives.
Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

Some of what you'll do:
- Initiate and/or participate in the recruitment, on-boarding, training, mentoring, corrective action, and evaluation process of subordinate staff.
- Participate in investigative processes regarding incidents involving resident's and staff, develop and implement plans of correction, as directed.
- Work various shifts, to include days, evenings, and nights, providing guidance and support to staff, to ensure uniform services and performance.
- Ensure employees are competent in the implementation of each resident's Individual Plan of Care by training, observation, checklists, etc.
- Either directly or through assigning the responsibility, ensure that Attendant Counselor staff function as members of the interdisciplinary team, including monitoring, assessing, and adhering to planned formal (data-based) and informal (non-data-based) programs which may include activities of daily living, educational, vocational, therapeutic, or behavioral under the direction of an appropriate specialist.
- Review and respond to Attendant Counselor staff's observations and any reports of changes in resident's general physical or mental condition or unusual behavior, and take appropriate action to provide resident safety, security, and protection from abuse and neglect.
- Ensure residents live in a positive, safe, and clean, environment.
- Under the direction of the program administrator, complete auditing functions of health, safety, and certification compliance.
- Communicates directly and/or ensures subordinate staff communicates appropriately with the resident's relatives/guardians as requested.
What we are looking for:
- Ability to train, direct, and supervise the tasks of staff, and provide effective, timely feedback given orally or in writing.
- Ability to handle multiple issues at a time, prioritize as needed, and keep key agency personnel notified of issues.
- Ability to provide direct care to residents who require assistance in activities of daily living.
- Possess basic computer skills including the use of the Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to use resident electronic records software daily.
- Excellent ability to communicate (listen, observe, speak, write, understand) and to engage in problem-solving, and conflict resolution with employees, residents, families, other professionals, and the public.
Who should apply?
Professionals with high school graduation/GED AND one of the following:
- Four years of experience as an Attendant Counselor 1, or higher-level state job class
- Four years of experience working with people with intellectual disabilities
- Meets professional qualification for Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) and one year of experience working directly with people with developmental disabilities
NOTE: The requirements for a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) as included in the Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 42, Subpart D, Section 483.430, are as follows:
- A doctor of medicine or osteopathy;
- A registered nurse;
- OR have at least a Bachelor's degree in any of the following:
- Occupational Therapy,
- Physical Therapy,
- Psychology,
- Social Work, from an educational program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education,
- Speech,
- Audiology,
- Recreation and related fields, or
- The Human Services (as defined at 438.430 (b) (5) (x)), includes but is not limited to sociology, special education, rehabilitation counseling, and psychology
