This person is a key player in our community and our schools by implementing and developing programs that will educate and prevent alcohol/drug addiction. As a Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist, this individual will conduct on-going needs assessments through contact with school personnel and evaluation of school/community programming. The individual will establish lesson plan guidelines for teachers to augment existing materials to meet requirements of school personnel. This position will play an active role in conducting trainings for teachers, parents, and service-providers and will serve as a D&A Liaison at Student Assistance Program core meetings in three county school districts. Duties may include providing intervention services in a school setting, D&A screenings for students, and co-facilitation of support groups. The ideal candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, be able to multi-task, be organized and able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and speak publicly to large groups.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment, eligible for a $250 sign-on bonus.

  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This is a 37.5 hour per week position including some evenings.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee; or

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Health Education, Education, the Social or Behavioral Sciences or related fields and one year experience in drug and alcohol prevention work; or

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, & Wayne counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.

  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
