Job description

THE POSITION

Are you an experienced driver with a passion for evaluating the skills and knowledge of others? The Department of Transportation in Philadelphia County is currently looking for a Driver License Examiner with CDL to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting standardized examinations to assess the competency of both non-commercial and commercial Driver License (CDL) applicants. Your expertise will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our roads. Do not miss out on this exciting opportunity. Apply today and make a difference in the transportation industry!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As part of this position, your main responsibility will be to conduct standardized on-road examinations in order to assess the skill and competence of both non-commercial Driver License and commercial Driver License applicants. This will involve evaluating their driving abilities in a safe and courteous manner while also determining their physical conditions and driving qualifications. Additionally, you will need to inspect the mechanical condition of vehicles according to established guidelines and standards, ensuring that they meet the necessary safety requirements. Before administering the driving tests, you will be required to perform pre-trip inspections of the vehicles. This includes checking for inspection stickers, lights, windshield wipers, and other mechanical features to ensure that they are in proper working order. This step is crucial to guaranteeing the safety of both the applicant and the examiner. Another aspect of your role will involve examining applications, registrations, and permits for any potential irregularities or signs of fraud. This is an important task in maintaining the integrity of the licensing process and ensuring that only qualified individuals receive their driver's licenses.

In addition to the practical examinations, you will also be responsible for administering the CDL and non-CDL knowledge examinations. These tests assess the applicants' understanding of the motor vehicle code and their knowledge of traffic signs. As part of your duties, you will evaluate the applicants' ability to practically demonstrate their motor vehicle operation skills and their adherence to the rules of the road. This evaluation will help determine their overall competence as drivers. At times, the Driver License Division Management Team may request that you audit third-party examiners for contract compliance. This can involve either having the third-party examiner administer a CDL skills test to the department examiner in a representative vehicle or scoring alongside the third-party examiner while they administer a CDL skills test to an applicant. This auditing process ensures that the third-party examiners are adhering to the necessary standards and guidelines. Finally, you will also be responsible for administering various vision tests, such as the telebinocular and color perception tests, to assess the applicants' visual capabilities. These tests are crucial in determining whether an individual meets the necessary vision requirements for obtaining a driver's license.
