JOB SUMMARY
The Adult Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention and advocacy services for individuals in Yates, Ontario, and Seneca County who need supportive services. The advocate will work with adults who have experienced domestic and family violence, child abuse, and sexual violence. This position provides services in the community with populations diverse by age, race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, and disability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess needs, provide other victim service referrals, and facilitate connections with other community support services.
- Maintain a caseload while completing data entry case notes in a timely manner. Provide trauma-informed advocacy to all clients, including goal planning, crisis intervention, safety planning, and follow-up services.
- Inform the clients of their eligibility with the Office of Victim Services and complete applications as appropriate.
- Provide advocacy services with family court, law enforcement and CPS. Provide information and assist client with Family Court Orders of Protection.
- Provide advocacy services and accompaniment to hospital calls and Forensic Rape Exams.
- Provide advocacy service to Shelter clients.
- Maintain professional relationships with community agencies and attend community meetings.
- Participate in outreach and agency awareness events.
- Complete all functions in an ethically and culturally competent manner.
- Maintain complete, accurate records on all clients and presentations.
- Complete monthly and quarterly reporting information in a timely manner.
- Cover 24 hour hotline for approximately 4 weeks per year. As well as other duties assigned by management.
- Follow agency confidentiality and other program policies.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and other agency meetings as requested by supervisor.
Skillset Required
- Experience working with individuals and families in crisis preferred.
- Ability to deal with a variety of crises and emotions in the workplace, communicate with a variety of people, work independently and as a team, and maintain strict confidences using a trauma informed approach.
- Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflicts, be adaptable and flexible and make effective decisions under pressure.
- Must be attentive, listen to people, meet clients where they are and collaborate with survivors and their goals.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are required.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Bi-Lingual preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE and COMPENSATION
37.5 hours per week, Generally weekdays 8:30am-4:30pm with variations based on clients needs. Some evening and weekends may be required.
$23 per hour plus a generous benefits package including health and dental insurance, paid time off, and 401(3)b retirement plan.
