Diversity Learning Assistants (DLAs) are employees of Diversity Initiatives and Programs (DIP) within the Department of University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS). DLAs are supervised by the Coordinators for Diversity Initiatives and Programs (DIP) and the in-hall professional staff. The mission of the DLA program is to help build inclusive, overlapping, and collaborative relationships among residents, UHDS staff, and the campus.
- Creating and maintaining a solid presence in your hall community
- Attending DLA staff and hall staff meetings.
- Conduct community outreach and interactions regularly in assigned residence halls, connecting residents to campus resources for academic, financial, and personal needs, building community among students from underserved and underrepresented populations, and creating an avenue for communication for students from underserved and underrepresented populations.
- Serve as a liaison for UHDS to cultivate and sustain relationships with campus partners engaged in diversity and social justice education.
- Actively work toward creating an inclusive community where all students feel safe to be themselves.
- Be accessible during evening hours unless special arrangements for time away are made with the DIP Coordinators and live-in professional staff.
- Promoting all DLA programming and events in the residence halls.
- Planning and facilitating dialogues, desk shops, bulletin boards, and large-scale events.
- Collecting data at all programming and large-scale events.
- Meet regularly with the DIP Coordinator and live-in professional staff.
- Attending weekly DLA and building staff meetings. DLA and hall staff meetings will occur on Tuesday nights from 5:30-9:00 PM.
- Meet regularly as needed with fellow DLAs for event preparation.
- In consultation with the DIP Coordinators, develop and execute a bulletin board, dialogues, desk shops, and ongoing programs.
- Use email, phone, online, in-person, and written communication as needed and directed; check all points of communication at least once daily, responding promptly.
- Participate in hall transitions.
- Staff front desk operations once a week from 8 PM - 12 AM on weekdays (Sunday - Thursday).
- Complete other administrative duties outlined via the Director of DIP
- Assist with recruiting and selecting new staff members throughout the academic year.
- Participate in UHDS and DIP events as required.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Actively participate in all UHDS Residential Education & Diversity Initiatives & Program training as required throughout the academic year.
- Take advantage of other University and UHDS training as appropriate.
- Understand, abide by, and philosophically support the guidelines for student behavior in the "UHDS Policy Guide" and "Student Conduct Code."

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

- DLAs are required to meet full-time student status. Enrolling in more than 16 credit hours requires prior approval from the Director of Diversity Initiatives and Programs.
- All UHDS student staff members are expected to stay in good academic standing (2.0 term and cumulative GPA or higher) with Oregon State University. Failure to do so may result in removal from the DLA position.
- DLAs are required to complete required training sessions, including in-person training prior to the start of each term, supplemental training during the academic year, and online training.
- Fall Training may begin as early as August 30, 2024, and lasts until the first day of classes on September 25, 2024. All DLAs must participate in fall training in its entirety. Students interested in taking summer courses must plan their schedule around all training sessions. Please be present for any part of the training with prior approval from the Director of DIP to avoid termination from the DLA position.
- Winter Training may begin as early as January 3, 2025, and may last throughout the winter term during regularly scheduled staff meetings. Students should plan to return early from winter break to participate in winter training sessions.
- Do not schedule any classes or other commitments on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-9:00 pm to allow for required meetings and training sessions. Please consult with the DIP coordinator as soon as possible for approval of classes during this timeframe.
- DLAs are expected to be present for University Move-In days in the Fall, Winter, and Spring term.
- DLAs are expected to be available for hall transition and closings at the end of each term. Staff should expect to stay on campus until noon on the Saturday after finals for Fall and Winter terms and may be asked to stay as late as noon on the Sunday after Spring term finals.
- The university allows student employees to work on campus for 20 hours per week. The DLA position is classified as a 15-hour/week commitment. Therefore, DLAs may be permitted to work up to 5 hours per week on campus outside of the DLA role. Other employment, assistantships, and campus involvement require advance discussion and approval from the Coordinator of DIP and are considered secondary to the DLA job responsibilities.
- DLAs are required to live on campus.
- The responsibilities and execution of the DLA position may shift depending upon the university's policies and expectations of OSU student employees and guidance from state and local health authorities.
