Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide a preventative health services program for students, which will enable the district to meet the requirements of federal, state, and local regulations.


QUALIFICATIONS
:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Communicate and work effectively with students, parents, district staff and representatives from other service agencies.


Experience:
Special preparation and/or experience as a volunteer or paid nurse in a school district setting.


Certification Required:
Current license to practice as a registered nurse issued by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.


Experience:
Previous experience with at risk youth preferred.


ESSENTIAL
JOBFUNCTIONS


  • Advise and assist district personnel in planning, organizing, and coordinating the district health service program for students.
  • Provide building level nursing services as scheduled.
  • Arrange for group screening as needed for vision hearaing, scoliosis, contagious or chronic diseases using district staff volunteers.
  • Following a student referral evaluate and provide appropriate follow-up and recommendations to staff and parents.
  • Act as a resource to district staff for information on health issues.
  • Coordinate student immunization to meet state legal requirements and assist staff in maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist building personnel in maintaining first aid supplies.
  • Review and file district student accident report forms.
  • Serve as a member of the district safety committee.
  • Implement and supervise a distict program of preventing the spread of blood bourne pathogens.
  • Develop health protocols for disabled students for geeding suctioning, positionsing and other medical concerns.
  • Assess the health needs of referred students.
  • Provide direct services to some referred students.
  • Plan nursing management of individual students.
  • Assist teachers in integrating the health management plan in to the educational and related services program.
  • Provide consulatation to specail education supervisors, teachers principals, school support staff, medical personnel, and parents regarding the nature, scope and intensity of services that will meet the student's identified health needs.
  • Act as liaison between parents, teachers, community agencies, distict School Nurses, and medical providers, as needed, to plan for student health needs.
  • Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team and make appropriate recommendations regarding student's individual health/educaiton plans (IEP).
  • Contribute in designated meetings directed by program director/supervisor.
  • Contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
  • Delegate nursing services to appropriate personnel for individual students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB_REOUIREMENTS:


Language Skills:

Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memos and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one small group situations.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.


Works in an office environment. Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Works a 200-day schedule with holidays and recess breaks as established. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on the evaluation of Professional-Technical personnel.

CALENDAR:
8 hours per day when school is in session, 200-day contract.


SALARY/BENEFITS:

Salary Range $56,347 - $72,177


Newberg School District pays 6% PERS contribution provides a generous insurance cap and long-term disability insurance.
