SalaryOver 180 MESD employees work in the Department of School Health Services. We are committed to ensuring the safety of students by providing the highest standard of nursing care in the school and community setting so that every student has the opportunity to achieve their educational potential. We are nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, and screening and prevention specialists who accomplish this by providing and coordinating specialized health services that support the educational experience for students throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. MESD and the MEA union are currently engaged in contract negotiations and the salary listed in this job posting reflects the rate for the 2023-24 school year. Upon ratification of the collective bargaining agreement, salary adjustments will be made for the 2024-25 school year as applicable.

Salary: Hourly rate of $31.77 - $63.54 (annualized salary range is provided below)
POSITION PURPOSE:
Provide comprehensive health services to the students and school communities served by the Multnomah Education Service District.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- In accordance with the standards of school nursing practice and the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, implement appropriate use of the nursing process to plan and provide individualized nursing care in the school community, including nursing delegation and training for an anticipated emergency.
- Manage delivery of school health services, including health screenings, communicable disease control, health education, and environmental monitoring.
- Attain and integrate evidence-based knowledge and clinical competency, including appropriate technology, and service delivery.
- Collaborate with the client, family, school staff, School Nurse colleagues, and other pertinent professional and community persons, including the supervisor, in the delivery of school health services.
- Facilitate resource access and utilization by the school, student, and family to meet the client’s safety, health, and education needs.
- Participate in the development/improvement of and demonstrate delivery of quality nursing practice.
- Adhere to the rules and procedures of the licensing agency for the license carried for this position.
- Maintain satisfactory job attendance record.
- Use personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury to self, students, and other staff.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director, Sr. Program Administrator and/or Supervisor, including attendance at work-related meetings and participating in school community health-related events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Daily and consistent attendance and punctuality
- Basic knowledge of applicable laws and nursing practice regulations and standards.
- Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates organization, leadership, and time management skills.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for use on the job.
- Ability to become proficient navigating in internal and external data systems, including data entry and report production pertinent to the delivery of school health services.
- Ability to physically perform assigned duties.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Experience in an educational/school setting
- Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, or Somali
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Valid Oregon license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
- Experience in the use of computer systems.
- Preferred BSN/BS in a health-related field.
- Current certification in CPR.
- Any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily on a school campus, indoors within an office, gymnasium, cafeteria or classroom with infrequent responses outdoors for urgent care or monitoring for environmental safety risks or conducting wellness activities. Involves sitting, walking, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires the use of computers, office equipment and driving a personal vehicle. Visitation to homes and offices of health care or social service providers as well as attendance at evening and weekend activities may be necessary. May work with high-stress students, family, or personnel situations.
