Job Description:
Job Summary: The District Safety Community Specialist assists the Manager of Environment of Care and Life Safety in assuring compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and other state and federal agencies for all JPS Health Network. Assists in development, implementation, and analysis of effective employee education programs on safety regulations, policies, procedures and operating systems. Provides support and guidance on resolution of identified opportunities for improvement and corrective action plans. Prepares and submits required reports on safety program results related to the environment of care and life safety. Interprets effectiveness of hospital safety programs with appropriate officials.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Works cooperatively and communicates effectively with the Manager of Environment of Care and Life Safety, network leadership, nursing and administrative staff to provide accurate analysis, planning, and execution of safety goals and regulatory compliance.
- Directs and coordinates environment of care, life safety, and OSHA based tracers and completes all required fire drills for hospital, ambulatory surgical center, and community health clinics.
- Serves as content expert supporting the Manager of Environment of Care and Life Safety regarding regulatory compliance within the community health clinic setting.
- Reviews, analyzes, prioritizes, and summarizes environment of care, life safety, and OSHA compliance data. Tracks and trends data to include comparisons to benchmarks, guiding improvement opportunities, and the use of analytic tools.
- Collects and analyzes trending results to ensure facility safety initiatives and reduce safety concerns.
- Partners with network leadership with resolution of identified opportunities for improvement.
- Develops, directs, and teaches educational safety material to foster a safe environment for staff.
- Identifies, directs, and initiates improvements related to deficiencies found within the environment to ensure safety.
- Collaborates with Emergency Management leadership to provide support with regards to safety to the network.
- Completes safety walks.
- Partners with multidisciplinary team to complete accident investigations related to the environment of care.
- Prepares, updates, and disseminates appropriate hazard analyses and information, for funding proposals, presentations, and documentation purposes (e.g. fire drill data, hazardous waste, accident data, etc.)

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university OR 3 -5 years of related safety experience within a healthcare or general industry safety environment.
- Experience in the management of safety processes and procedures in a healthcare environment.
- Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) within two years of employment.
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (LSSYB) within three years of employment.
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) ICS 100, 200, 700, certifications. May be obtained within two years of employment.
- Valid State of Texas driver's license in good standing. If out of state license, must obtain a valid Texas Driver's license within 90 days.
- Master's degree in Safety, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or related field from an accredited university.
