TITLE: Dispatcher
DEPARTMENT: Transportation
REPORTS TO: Production Manager
STATUS: Full-time
FLSA Status: Non -Exempt
DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Production Manager, the Dispatcher is primarily responsible for:
- Scheduling and dispatching drivers to appropriate locations according to customer requests, specifications, or needs.
- Answering calls from clients and schedule services
- Maintaining records, logs, and schedules of the calls received to schedule transit services, drivers dispatched, and customer cancellations or no-shows
- Preparing reports on all activities occurring during their shifts
- Directing drivers through written and telecommunication contact
- Arranging for necessary repairs in order to restore service and schedules
- Relaying work orders, messages, and information to or from work crews and supervisors using telecommunication
- Conferring with customers or supervising personnel in order to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment
- Preparing run schedules at least three (3) days in advance.
- Receiving or preparing work orders.
- Monitoring personnel and/or equipment at locations and utilizing information to coordinate service and schedules
- Recording and maintaining files and records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, inventory, and other dispatch information.
- Determining types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required according to work orders or specifications
- Advising personnel about traffic problems such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and other hazards
EXPERIENCE:
One to two years of dispatch and/or customer service experience is preferred.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to organize logical and efficient schedules and routes and adapt to changes
- Ability to read, comprehend and understand a map
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret transit system operating rules, regulations, policies, phases and routes
- Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Clear speech and pleasant phone demeanor
- Ability to use a multi-line phone system and handle multiple tasks concurrently
- Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups
Schedule:
Monday - Friday
1 pm - 9:30 pm
Shift Differential Pay of $1.00 added to hourly base rate
