ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director will serve as a key member on the US Government Relations team, working with the Senior Director and GR team to execute comprehensive strategies to promote and defend ONE's positions on foreign assistance, including appropriations, agriculture, economic development, and other key policy issues. This role will represent ONE's positions directly with government policymakers (legislative and executive branch) and maintain a robust network of contacts throughout the U.S. government. The Director will work closely with leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating ONE's advocacy campaigns with our ONE membership and the public. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience and connections from the advocacy and/or legislative sectors, be energetic and motivated to achieve ONE's mission, work well in a team, have a problem-solving attitude, and think creatively. This is a full-time, exempt opportunity reporting directly to the Senior Director for Government Relations, based in our Washington, D.C. office, serving in a hybrid office setting.

The selected candidate will be required to register under the U.S. federal Lobbying Disclosure Act.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Work alongside the Senior Director to execute ONE's legislative and advocacy strategy, establishing and implementing short- and long-term strategies in partnership with those across the US ONE office and other ONE markets around the globe.
  • Work alongside the Senior Director and team to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with critical U.S. policymakers in Congress and the Administration to influence and advance ONE's policy priorities.
  • Track and advocate for relevant appropriations and authorization legislation and amendments; develop new legislative ideas; and make recommendations on ONE's legislative agenda.
  • Represent ONE's positions externally with other nonprofits, public interest groups, and other organizations.
  • Liaise with other teams within the organization to advise and service ONE membership on grassroots and field strategies and actions to advance legislative priorities.
  • Lead on and participate in projects, committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Additional duties as assigned

WHAT YOU BRING TO ONE

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; 10+ years' relevant professional experience that includes at least 5 years of legislative or issue-advocacy work, with experience on Capitol Hill preferred.
  • Strong and bipartisan relationships on Capitol Hill a must. Relationships with the executive branch are preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English, in particular with broad, diverse audiences.
  • Genuine interest and passion for ONE's issues and priorities, including foreign assistance, economic development, food aid, and more.
  • Demonstrated track record of success, as well as interest in and understanding of the U.S. legislative process.
  • Team-player with superior interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed (minimal).
  • Ability to consistently apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions.
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the legislative branch and/or advocacy.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities under tight deadlines while performing in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Related work history in foreign assistance, advocacy, policy, legislation and/or demonstrable interest in the causes ONE supports.
  • Ability to work in the United States is required.

TRAVEL

No travel expectations currently. Travel expected to be less than 10% domestically.

COMPENSATION RANGE

$119,000 - 154,000 per year

Pay range as posted reflects the minimum to the midpoint of the external market salary range that ONE has adopted for this job level in the US. This salary range is based on compensation survey data for similar organizations and is used to set pay internally at ONE. Where a new hire's salary falls within this range is based on a variety of factors, including the budget available for this position.
