Essential Functions

  • Develop, communicate, and administer competitive Total Rewards strategies, including compensation, benefits, retirement, engagement, and other work experience programs, that are cost effective and consistent with organizational objectives and informed by market trends.
  • Lead the compensation and benefits function to effectively design, implement and manage the strategy, philosophy, programs, policies, and initiatives while maintaining cost, quality, service, and process controls.
  • Drive Total Rewards projects that implement Sun Country’s strategy to completion.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for Sun Country benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans to ensure employees and Sun Country are receiving cost competitive services and excellent customer services from all benefit providers.
  • Manage and refine established salary structures, develop salary budgets, and prepare policies and procedures to insure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation.
  • Provide leadership to and direct supervision of Total Rewards Team through effective coaching and performance management.
  • Oversee the review, communication, and implementation of the annual benefits programs open enrollment.
  • Work with external compensation consultants and CHRO on executive compensation matters. Work closely with legal to develop proxy materials.
  • Provide insight and bring innovative strategies to benefits design and administration enabling employees to optimize value for every dollar spent.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of company’s benefits programs including health, welfare and retirement plans, PTO and leave policies, recommending changes which provide value to employees, are within or below budget and consistent with organizational objectives and informed by market trends.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental regulations related to compensation and benefit programs.
  • Direct the preparation and timely distribution of various plan documents that govern the operation of our health and welfare benefit plans.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of federal and state legislation influencing compensation and benefits.
  • Interact internally and externally with executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters and influences policymaking.
  • Assure that Sun Country’s Total Rewards programming is administered in a non-discriminatory manner, is compliant with all applicable laws and is consistently administered.  
  • Any other duties assigned by management.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Provide leadership for entire Total Rewards team
  • Directly supervise two HR Managers and their direct reports
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
  • A proactive, high-energy attitude geared towards achieving continuous improvement.
  • Must be a self-starter, team player, and able to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and planning skills. Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate with executive management and prepare and present materials in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven success leading and driving complex initiatives.
  • Understanding and interpretation of regulatory requirements such as ERISA, COBRA, HIPPA, ACA.  A thorough knowledge and understanding of other federal and state compensation and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to professionally handle confidential material and associated issues.
  • Strong understanding of benefits administration, payroll, and other HR functions

 

Preferred Skills
  • 7- 10 years’ of progressive experience designing and managing compensation and benefits
  • Proven experience in the design and implementation of complex benefits including health and welfare and retirement and compensation programs.
  • 5+ years’ experience in leading a Human Resources team.
  • Professional certification such as SPHR, PHR, CCP, CEBS or advanced degree is highly desired.
  • HRIS systems expertise in UltiPro
  • A demonstrated track record of working with senior or executive level management on developing and implementing human resource initiatives and Total Rewards strategies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones photocopiers, filing cabinets.
