Role Description:

At Oak Street Health, we are building the industry-leading clinical operations and population health platform to support the delivery of high quality care to the Medicare population. As a Director of Product, you will be responsible for partnering with executive operational and technology leaders to define the strategic direction for our technology platforms. The ideal candidate combines deep domain and industry expertise with experience managing Product teams developing solutions for a B2B2C market.

The Director of Technical Product will be responsible for 1) overseeing and coordinating delivery of the remaining committed technology initiatives for the current data platform, 2) developing and maintaining the roadmap for maintenance and enhancements, and 3) growing and developing the product team to support growth. Committed initiatives for the data platform include payer data integration, vendor data integrations, data warehouse maintenance and enhancements, operational and reporting data structures.  New 2024 initiatives are likely to include platform maintenance, enhancements to support growth and necessary new integrations. To support this work, we anticipate a growth in technology investment (and thus, team size) and consulting engagements.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Team Development: You will be responsible for recruiting, training, managing, and mentoring Product team members and leaders. You will develop a player-led team that can operate independently and continuously to deliver value to their particular domain of influence.

  • Product Vision: You will be responsible for providing the vision and direction of technology initiatives spanning Oak Street’s core platform teams, including the company’s investment in building a bespoke EMR solution. Additionally, you will ensure continuous alignment of business leaders with your strategy.

  • Product Strategy: You will partner with executive-level operations and technology leaders to define and prioritize the “problems to solve” for your teams. In order to ensure effective execution, you will be responsible for communicating or facilitating the knowledge transfer of strategic context needed for product teams to deliver on the objectives.

  • Execution: Pulling from industry best practices, you will develop and implement the processes necessary to ensure consistent, high quality execution from your product teams. You will inspire and motivate your teams to do their best work and ensure alignment with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure everyone is moving in the same direction.

  • Roadmap Communication: You will facilitate organization-wide communication mechanisms to ensure common understanding of the current state of the Product Roadmap across all relevant stakeholders. Additionally, you will provide a mechanism for continuous roadmap feedback that enables team members across the organization to provide input into the roadmapping process.

  • Decision / Trade Off Facilitation: You will facilitate senior-level decision making on organizational priorities, bringing a deep understanding of subject matter necessary to inform high quality decisions. You actively tie trade off decisions to business and user impact to ensure the highest value initiatives are prioritized.

  • Culture Development: You inspire in your team a strong understanding of continuous and rapid testing and learning. You help others understand that it is important to make mistakes in order to learn, while ensuring you make them quickly and minimizing risk. You are an advocate for continuous innovation through deep collaboration, and you ensure that your product teams value the input and partnership with designers and engineers.

  • User Advocate: You will continuously engage with end users of your products to identify challenges and potential opportunities. You listen deeply to understand the concerns of your users and serve as an advocate for them during prioritization decisions.

  • Thought Leader: You will develop thought leadership content and presentations that articulate perspectives on industry-wide improvements in your domains. Leveraging this content, you will inspire change within the industry at large while attracting high quality talent to Oak Street Health.

  • A Coach and Mentor: You bring a solid-track record of identifying and recruiting top talent and working continuously with those people to develop their weaknesses and leverage their strengths. You impart your knowledge of strong Product Management process onto your team members through both formal and informal coaching and training. You are passionate about helping others to succeed and feel comfortable providing active, ongoing feedback to team members.
