Department Information
The Georgia Tech Athletic Associate (GTAA) sponsors varsity intercollegiate athletics competition in 17 NCAA Division I sports for the Georgia Institute of Technology. We are a proud member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Job Summary

The Director of Sports Medicine will oversee sports medicine services provided to Georgia Tech student-athletes who compete in their assigned division of sports. This position supervises athletic training services and the Sports Medicine administrative operations for all sport programs within their division, including staff athletic trainers assigned to their specific sport program. Duties include prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries and illnesses. This role requires a high level of competence in sports medicine administration, clinical evaluation, treatment and teaching along with a commitment to maintaining an integrated, interdisciplinary health care model.This position will interact on a consistent basis with: student-athletes, coaches, staff, external medical personnel. Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Oversee sport medicine services for assigned division of sport programs, providing leadership with a commitment to integrity while overseeing the healthcare services for GT student-athletes
Job Duty 2 -
Provide primary medical care including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and injury counseling for assigned teams and student-athletes
Job Duty 3 -
Provide leadership to encourage and maintain an integrated, interdisciplinary healthcare model for student-athletes
Job Duty 4 -
In collaboration with the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, develop and implement a strategic plan for assigned division of sport programs that includes a vision, goals, ongoing assessment and evaluation, personnel management, operational policies, and protocols. The foundation of this plan should be a commitment to integrity and ethical conduct
Job Duty 5 -
Oversee administrative operations for assigned division of sport programs to include insurance claims processing, medical billing, and management of electronic health records
Job Duty 6 -
Collaborate on student-athlete care plans with members of sports performance, health, and wellness team, to include team physicians, athletic trainers, psychologists, physical therapists, registered dieticians, strength and conditioning coaches, academic advisors, and student-athlete development staff
Job Duty 7 -
Develop and maintain timely communication regarding student-athlete health-care statuses with athletics department staff, coaches, team physicians, supervisor, internal and external constituencies
Job Duty 8 -
Complete and maintain medical files for assigned student-athletes. Documentation to be maintained include, but are not limited to student-athlete injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, initial assessments, follow up assessments, daily treatments, rehabilitations sessions, documentation of referral process and diagnostic testing results.

Job Duty 9 -
Manage relationships with student-athletes and staff, in a confidential and professional manner
Job Duty 10 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Master's degree in athletic training or an educational program accredited by the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (NATABOC)
Other Required Qualifications
Required Certifications, Licenses or Permits:
o Current or eligible to obtain Athletic Training licensure from the State of Georgia
o CPR/AED Certification - Healthcare Provider or equivalent
o NATABOC Certification
o Must have a valid Driver's License
Required Experience
Eight or more years of job-related experience. At least one year of supervisory experience. Experience in a multi-disciplinary athletic medicine model including, but not limited to; Strength & Conditioning, Sports Science, Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
o Must be able to work nights, weekends, and travel
o Experience coordinating sports medicine services at NCAA Division 1 level
o Experience that demonstrates the ability to effectively lead and manage a collective group of health
care professionals from various fields and backgrounds
o Effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity; develop conditioning and rehabilitation
programs and manage and treat injuries; use the full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities
and treatments and rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries; determine
the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals; recognize life threatening
situations and administer the appropriate emergency aid; fit braces and fabricate orthotics as
needed
KNOWLEDGE
o Experience in evidence-based practice in Athletic Training
o Experience with injury screening and prevention programs utilizing sports science data gathering
and interpretation skills
o Advanced knowledge and skills in decision making and problem solving, service, integrity,
innovation, safety awareness, adaptability, cultural competence, influence, and the administration
of a variety of assessment tools, treatment plans and equipment
o Must possess a general knowledge of the principles and practices of Athletic Training,
Occupational Health, and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards, maintaining medical records
including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and following insurance procedures
SKILLS
o Experience with soft tissue mobilization techniques
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop effective working relationships with
athletes, and serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and
other healthcare professionals
