Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Director - SOM Diversity & Inclusion at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):Direct efforts to expand and maintain diversity and inclusion within educational programs at the School of Medicine. Design, develop and facilitate diversity and inclusion educational resources. Develop and implement strategic and operational pipeline initiatives at the K`12, undergraduate, and post-degree levels for outreach, recruitment, and retention of students underrepresented in medicine. Work collaboratively with School of medicine leaders, Deans and faculty to advance the institution's commitment of a diverse academic learning environment. The position will report to the Vice Dean Diversity and Community Affairs.
Essential Functions
Direct the day-to-day operations of the department. Recruit, hire, train, lead, develop, and evaluate staff to service the needs of students who are underrepresented in medicine. Conduct program assessment, oversee all administrative tasks and operations to meet program objectives. Ensure that employees have a comfortable place to work and learn, regardless of their race, gender, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, or disability.
Manage the historic medical Post Baccalaureate Program. Manage the medical Post Baccalaureate Program components. Including student selection, course selection, hiring of faculty, and efficient use of curriculum resources and logistics. Develop an effective program model to support the academic success of underrepresented students. Develop and maintain strong and effective collaborations with SOM departments, as well as other university schools/colleges to maximize the effectiveness of recruiting students underrepresented in medicine. Promote professional, academic, and non-cognitive development for Post Baccalaureate Program students. Partner with Medical Students Affairs to enhance medical student recruitment and retention.
Develop and implement a community involvement strategy that builds strong relationships with internal and external organizations, involvement in community initiatives and events, and marketing the commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and student body. Develop and oversee diversity and inclusion events. Develop diversity and inclusion awareness training classes. Track the progress of diversity and inclusion strategies against key metrics. Provide recommendations to focus activities and strengthen key deliverable such as recruitment, development, retention, and engagement. Develop, align, and integrate a range of new and existing initiatives, policies, and procedures into a cohesive platform that will foster a more inclusive, supportive, and diverse faculty, staff and student community.
Maintain effective communication on diversity for key stakeholders. Ensure diversity and inclusion topics are included in appropriate internal and external communications by developing strong internal networks and effective communication processes using formal and informal channels throughout the School of Medicine and University. Work collaboratively with the University's Office of Equity and Diversity to ensure that the School of Medicine efforts are aligned with university-wide policies, programs, and strategic initiatives. Serve as a liaison and resource for Department Heads, faculty, and administrative staff and students regarding diversity issues.
Plan direct and manage unit budget in accordance with established policy and procedure. Monitor and approve expenditures, provide projections, analysis, and reports.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college of university.
Experience: Expert (established subject matter expert, 7+ years experience).
Demonstrated record of career growth and increased responsibility in managing complex university operations.
Experience in student services required. Prior oversight and supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, including written, oral, and interpersonal communication with ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. Excellent writing, speaking, organization, platform, and presentation skills. Knowledge of diversity fundamentals within higher education. Leadership Skills: Proven ability to foster collaborations across diverse constituencies in a large academic institution and inspire confidence to collectively meet common objectives. Supervisor Skills: Ability to delegate work, set clear directives and manage workflow; strong mentoring skills; ability to train and develop staff and encourage teamwork.
Preferred qualifications:Master's Degree or higher preferred.
