Job description

Director of Student Success

 

The Director of Student Success at the Michigan Community College Association will execute the priorities of the Michigan Center for Student Success to support community colleges in their efforts to improve equitable student outcomes. The Director is an integral part of the MCCA team and is primarily responsible for organizing, leading, and implementing the grant-funded projects of the Center for Student Success and managing a team of staff and consultants expected to execute the work.

 

The Director reports to the Vice President of the MCCA who is responsible for the overall vision for Student Success at the Association including securing federal, state, and philanthropic funds to support the Center for Student Success and integrating Center strategies with the Association and broader national and state Student Success ecosystem. A strong candidate will manage several projects simultaneously with the support of staff and consultants and should therefore have outstanding project and people management skills.

Employment Type:  Full-Time, hybrid, with regular travel to Lansing approximately 2 days per week with additional in-state and national travel for meetings, convenings, and conferences. This position is grant-funded, and dependent on the availability of grant resources.

  • Salaried Position $95,000.00 +, commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide overall management of the Center for Student Success and its projects and activities.
  • Supervise Center staff members and manage several consulting relationships for ongoing projects and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership for grant-funded Center activities.
  • Foster an ongoing Student Success-focused policy agenda for the State of Michigan and support MCCA’s efforts to influence relevant legislation.
  • Direct the numerous initiatives managed by the MCSS and ensure timely grant reporting!
  • Oversee the implementation of high-quality convenings.
  • Coordinate the annual Student Success Summit in partnership with MCCA staff.
  • Participate in relevant national convenings and networks.
  • Draft grant reports.
  • Support MCCA’s efforts to engage with professional community college affinity groups. Support the Vice President is strategic decisions to secure funding for Center activities. Participate in MCCA Board of Directors, Presidents Committee, Trustee Committee, annual conference, and other events hosted by the Association. Represent the Michigan Community College Association at selected local, state, and national organizations, convenings, and meetings. Set annual goals aligned with the strategic plan of the MCCA.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Expertise managing personnel and consultants.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and experience with project management tools (such as Asana, Teams, etc.)
  • Significant experience managing projects with clear deadlines and deliverables, particularly grant-funded projects.
  • Experience with Student Success and completion policy, practice, and research.
  • Experience working with community college administrators, and faculty.
  • Effective presentation and meeting organization skills to groups of varying sizes
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with large teams of professionals and stakeholders from a variety of different institutions of higher education.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
