The U.S. Director of Retail Property Marketing runs all marketing activities, sets the vision and goals, and drives day-to-day execution of brand marketing for the retail services platform. The primary focus of this role is oversight of field marketing and includes building and managing a high-performing team that is empowered by AYs technology platforms; drives brand elevation using data-led thought; delivers integrated marketing programs; and supports sales enablement to win new business.

Must be a solid coach, mentor, and communicator to elevate the retail marketing organization to that of a strategic partner to our retail professionals, to our clients, and to their Retail Property assets.


  • Set the vision for marketing success that aligns with key objectives of the retail services business and drives the Retail Property Marketing organization toward that vision.
  • Define and deliver strategic and integrated Property Marketing plans for each retail assignment.
  • Drive scalable consumer marketing, promotions and event programs to increase center traffic and retailer sales.
  • Seek out opportunities and collaborate with Specialty Leasing for in-center advertising, sponsorship, activation, and merchandising to drive property revenue.
  • Build pathways/programs that strengthen tenant relationships and landlord/client relationship.
  • Set scalable strategy and develop strategic partnerships for property marketers on digital and social media platforms, including websites and e-Marketing, that meets compliance requirements and drives engagement and measurable results.
  • Provide guidance/strategy for property marketers to increase local exposure through public relations including radio, press, digital, partnerships, etc.
  • Partner with Market Intelligence to maintain a strong knowledge and understanding of market dynamics.
  • Exercise clear leadership and focus on shifting market conditions, competitive activities, economics, and relevant matters.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to property management and marketing teams to deliver retailer sales, traffic, and best-in-class marketing programming with measurable results.
  • Support new business objectives by identifying industry and organizational opportunities.
  • Collaborate with sales enablement teams to provide resource expertise and marketing tools to facilitate the new business process and client relation’s goals.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and resources to implement the marketing program.
  • Ensure overall consistency of brand strategy and messaging to build value and reputation with internal and external audiences.
  • Establish skills standards and implement individual development plans for marketing personnel.
  • Identify and manage industry sponsorships, thought leadership and speaking opportunities, including the coordination of Avison Young’s presence at industry events and trade shows.
  • Lead the development and creation of internal communications for the retail services staff using the Orion internal communications platform.
  • Partner with Avison Young’s media communications team to raise the profile of Avison Young brand by increasing share-of-voice through media engagement, press release and social media.
  • Participate in the firm’s strategic marketing and communications meetings, conference calls, and strategy sessions as an integral member of the marketing leadership team.  

  • 10+ years of experience in marketing within a corporate environment
  • Confident people manager, mentor, coach, who puts the needs of the team above self
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and making decisions based on experience
  • Strong business acumen and understands how the firm makes money
  • Experience managing a budget and spend for the region
  • Comfortable with high risk, high reward responsibilities
  • Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Able to prioritize tasks to meet established and arising deadlines
  • Dynamic personality with the ability to successfully drive projects in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong collaborator who possesses the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously as well as accommodate day-to-day immediate needs and requests
  • Creative, fast learner who independently seeks out knowledge, and can think outside the box
  • Adept in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
