Position Summary:
The Director of Program Operations ("the Director"), reporting to the Anne Quinn Welsh Endowed Director of the University Honors Program ("the Faculty Director"), manages the daily operations of the Honors Program to ensure outstanding student services, meaningful academic and co-curricular experiences, and a distinctive learning community.
The Director is responsible for oversight and leadership of the Assistant Director, Program Coordinator, Program Assistant, and Graduate Assistants. The Director offers credentialing oversight, acts as curricular liaison to all four colleges, and works in partnership with all cross-college partners.
The Director will work closely with the Faculty Director to provide leadership to support the excellence of the Honors experience at Villanova, in accordance with the University's Mission and Strategic Plan. The Director assists the Faculty Director with strategic plan development, implementation, evaluation, and assessment. In the Faculty Director's absence, the Director of Operations is responsible for leading staff meetings and the overall functioning of the Program.
With respect to external relations, the Director of Operations assists the Faculty Director in partnering with University Advancement and Alumni Relations to strengthen the broader Honors community and generate financial resources, academic and career networks, and engagement opportunities. The Director of Operations also assists the Director in grant writing to private foundations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Management 40% of Time
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and mentors the Honors Program staff, in strong partnership with the Faculty Director.
  • Supports team professional development and performance management goals.
  • Ensures a student and service-centered approach and support escalated inquiries or issues from across the team.

Management of Assistant Director
  • Weekly 1:1 meetings with Assistant Director
  • Sets Assistant Director's weekly and long-term goals, and manages performance review cycle

Management of Other staff:
  • Assistant Director
  • Program Coordinator (1)
  • Program Assistant (1)
  • Graduate Assistants (3)
    • Weekly 1:1 meetings with Program Coordinator and Program Assistant
    • Regularly monitor Graduate Assistant progress
    • Sets Program Coordinator and Program Assistant's weekly and long-term goals, and participate in performance review cycle

Credentialing Oversight/Liaison/Partnerships 40% of Time
  • The Director promotes engagement and alignment with teams across the University supporting Honors students, All Colleges and Cross-College Partners
  • Collaborate with representative of these units to coordinate activities, strengthen relationship, and ensure cross-function support:
    • University Admissions
    • University Communications and Marketing
    • Office of Career Services
    • Office of Education Abroad (CD Scholarship/South Africa Scholarship)
    • CRF, CASA, LSS

Strategic Planning & External Relations 15% of Time
  • Enhance visibility of Villanova's Honors Program excellence within and beyond the University.
  • Assist the Faculty Director in developing and executing the strategic and operational plans and goals for the program.
  • Strengthen the broader Honors community and generate financial resources, academic and career networks, and engagement opportunities.

University Advancement
  • In partnership with the Faculty Director, continue to build relationship with University Advancement and Alumni Relations
  • In partnership with the Faculty Director, build Honors Alumni community
  • Grant Writing

PART IV: NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Less Critical Duties etc.)
Administrative Duties 5% of Time
  • Attend weekly meeting with Director
  • Occasionally lead staff meetings
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Maintain routine correspondence with administrative and academic offices, current and prospective students, Honors Program alums, and other universities' Honors Programs
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
  • Master's degree required

Work Experience
  • Five to seven years of progressive responsibility within a Higher Education organization
  • Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate selected must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must convey a highly professional demeanor and be a team player.
  • Must have the ability to handle a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects/tasks with varied deadlines.
  • The candidate selected must be poised with strong customer-service skills and be able to work independently under general supervision.
  • Must be capable of handling multiple priorities and working under strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a deep commitment to the well-being of the Honors Program, Villanova University, and University's Augustinian Catholic heritage, and the advancement of its mission and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Thorough understanding of the needs of undergraduate students; ability to relate to and develop relationships with students, faculty, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of national trends and issues in Honors education.
  • Equipment Knowledge
  • Demonstrated technology skills/aptitude, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Banner ERP, social media, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
Formal Education
  • MA/MBA

Work Experience
  • Seven to ten years experience in higher education
