Zone 1 : $135,897 annually

Zone 2 : $146,090 annually

Zone 3 : $156,282 annually

Position Description: The Director of Professional Learning is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of Professional Learning programs within AVID. This role will ensure that our Professional Learning offerings align with our strategic goals and meet the needs of our staff and partners.

Essential Duties:

  • Direct, manage, and evaluate the work of the Professional Learning team and AVID Staff Developers responsible for delivering AVID's high-quality in-person and virtual Professional Learning experiences.
  • In conjunction with LPPS Leadership, develop and craft the vision and execution for Professional Learning opportunities including workshops and Professional Learning for internal and external partners.
  • Organize and direct the staffing, scheduling, and facilitation of quality Professional Learning experiences that align with AVID Center goals and quality standards.
  • Supervise staff developer training, support, and scheduling for the facilitation of AVID Professional Learning.
  • Collaborate with Events team leadership to design the delivery of high-quality Professional Learning events.
  • Partner with HR for the recruitment, selection, and retention of staff developers.
  • Foster nurturing relationships with Staff Developers to ensure they feel appreciated, acknowledged, significant, and understand the vital role they play as employees of AVID.
  • Proactively develop and execute appropriate contingency/mitigation plans to maximize outcomes and minimize risks
  • Develop and manage the appropriate budget(s) for designated Professional Learning accounts, ensuring that performance objectives are met, allocations are accurate, revenue, and expenses are within budget. Ensure staffing for the Professional Learning experiences is delivered within budget parameters.
  • Collaborate with appropriate AVID staff to design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate AVID Professional Learning experiences and related training resources. Assure program quality and conformity to AVID Center goals and quality standards.
  • Use project management skills to prepare and communicate detailed project plans, including timelines and deliverables, as well as required resources to complete each project or assignment to ensure quality and alignment.
  • Actively participate as a member on a variety of internal committees, and participate in external professional groups appropriate for learning programs, products, and services; provide external stakeholders with relevant information that furthers the AVID mission
  • Represent AVID at conferences, community celebrations, and professional events to promote awareness of our mission to external clients, partners, and the community
  • Act as a liaison for the Professional Learning team by providing direct support to internal teams and partners, as needed.
  • Support and monitor the quality implementation of AVID Professional Learning.
  • Actively participate as a member on a variety of internal committees; participate in external professional groups appropriate for Professional Learning.
  • Keep abreast of the latest research, educational policy and trends to ensure alignment of and development of cutting-edge Professional Learning experiences, products, and services.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Director, Professional Learning must provide evidence of or demonstrate the following:

  • Philosophy and core values are aligned with AVID Center’s mission.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate individuals as they work collaboratively in teams.
  • Prior success in the delivery and planning of Professional Learning for adult learners.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal oversight while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and creative problem solving when faced with complex adaptive challenges.
  • Strong character traits expected of a leader that include, but are not limited to: respectful treatment of colleagues and others, integrity, honesty and a positive work ethic.
  • Ability to identify problems and facilitate collaborative team conversations about possible solutions to problems involving quality implementation and evaluation of AVID program work.
  • Strong verbal communication skills: ability to speak effectively when interacting with others or presenting information.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to compose correspondence and reports.
  • Effective use of technology tools for communication, planning, management, presentations and development of Professional Learning resources and trainings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, complex system and in a multicultural environment.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Travel to Summer Institute if required.

Experience and Education*:

Required:

  • AVID Professional Learning products and services knowledge and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Human Resources, or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience
  • Project Management certification or experience
  • Experience managing or directing individuals and/or teams

Preferred:

  • Post-graduate degree
  • Experience supervising a remote workforce
  • Experience in serving nonprofit organizations or educational institutions, which prepare students for success in high school, college, and a career, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education
  • Knowledge and experience with AVID Staff Developers, programs, and services
  • Allowable Substitutions: Any combination of experience and training that provides the incumbent/applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work, as determined by the AVID Center. Qualifying work experience, as identified by the Senior Director, Human Resources may substitute for the education requirement.

Physical Demands:

In performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:

  • Remain in a stationary position for up to 50% of the time
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office machines
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information
  • Move about the office environment
  • Occasionally move objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Detect and discern objects near and far
