Job Purpose:Reporting to the Dean of University College, the Director provides leadership and management for the Academic Success Center (ASC):
- Oversees academic support services, including peer tutoring, learning services and programs, and academic coaching and supervises staff associated with these functions;
- Develops and maintains standards of practice for academic tutoring;
- Prepares reports/assessments on ASC programs and initiatives;
- Provides one-to-one academic counseling for students; and
- Promotes a campus culture of academic excellence.
Provides leadership for the development and implementation of ASC programming, services, and student outreach.
- Identifies and implements effective tutoring models (e.g., peer-to-peer, study groups, drop-ins).
- Using available data (e.g., peer-to-peer, study groups, drop-ins), collaborates with stakeholders across campus to identify and implement the most effective tutoring and Academic Success strategies and academic support initiatives.
- Leverages technology (e.g., TutorTrac, Qualtrics, Navigate) to promote and support ASC programs and initiatives.
- Provides Academic Success consultations to students.
- Teaches Theory and Practice of Leaders (LEAD 120) and implements curriculum updates as needed.
- Supports retention by addressing student needs and concerns related to Academic Success, advising, course performance, success strategies, and learning skills assessments.
- Represents the ASC through active participation in university activities and events.
- Develops workshops and programs designed to help students succeed academically.
- Designs annual marketing campaign and maintains inventory of marketing materials and website updates related to ASC, including social media accounts.
- Oversees assessment and reporting.
Provides staff supervision and leadership.
- Supervises, trains and evaluates a full-time (FTE) academic coach.
- Manages the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of peer tutors.
- Oversees the onboarding and training of learning assistants and supplemental instructors.
- Oversees peer leader recognition initiatives.
- Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- At least one year of professional experience in the areas of tutoring and learning, Academic Success, student services, first-year experience, bridge programs, TRiO SSS programs, academic advising or student affairs.
- Experience in academic program assessment in an educational setting.
- Experience with administrative program management and supervision.
- Experience managing tutoring programs and services for college students.
- Experience using data to inform program development and decisions affecting student Academic Success.
- Experience with Banner or similar student information system.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of instructional and learning strategies and support programs that promote student learning and success.
- Familiarity with higher education academic programs and services.
- Exceptional ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects/programs.
- Ability to proactively establish and maintain productive working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
- Ability to offer respectful, proactive communication, maintain a professional environment and anticipate student, colleague and customer needs.
- Sufficient technical ability to master the software and applications necessary to perform job duties at a high level.
- Ability to effectively prepare reports and relevant analysis of programs and services.
- Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills.
