Job Summary:
Vail Resorts is seeking a proven, self-motivated, and engaged professional to lead the Technical Safety and Programs function for the company. The Director of Technical Safety and Programs will be responsible for leading a dynamic team, and partnering with key stakeholders to execute the vision that drives the company’s H&S programs and initiatives. This position will have significant impact on all Vail Resort properties which includes the greatest winter and summer outdoor activities available in one footprint.
As a key member of the H&S team in Broomfield’s headquarters, this leader will participate in many engaging initiatives that will keep all Vail Resorts employees and guests safe in their unique adventures.
The Director of Technical Safety and Programs will deliver on Vail Resorts’ overall mission: to create an Experience of a Lifetime for our employees, so that they can in turn, provide an Experience of a Lifetime for our guests.
Job Responsibilities:
The Director of Technical Safety and Programs will:
- Develop, partner, and implement all H&S programs in alignment with the strategic vision of the department, that is scalable, sustainable, and aligned with the VR2030 vision.
- Show corporate responsibility by establishing H&S programs and employee health and safety advocacy practices in a moral, legal, ethical and socially responsible manner while prioritizing employee risk.
- Influence the behavior of individuals, departments, and leaders, in a way that will facilitate the achievement of shared company goals, by explaining the importance of leadership in a risk management context.
- Continuously identify areas of improvement throughout the H&S function, including program management fundamentals, training, recordkeeping, reporting, audits, and governance.
- Partner with key stakeholders to evaluate risk, then provide solutions for all identified areas of opportunity.
- Deliver assigned projects for self and team, according to plan, within timeline and budget.
- Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including H&S, Operations, Compliance, HR, Finance, Legal, IT and others to ensure alignment and understanding of shared solutions.
- Evaluate and understand the ski industry’s historic approach to safety, and utilize learnings to implement solutions that support the VR2030 initiative.
- Leverage data-driven insights to drive H&S program leadership accountability and success.
- Gather and apply credible information and technology solutions available to mitigate ski industry risks, and develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to apply these solutions.
- Remain informed on changing regulatory requirements around all H&S and other applicable functions.
- Regularly seek and address feedback from our stakeholders
- Occasionally travel to resorts and other properties, both domestic and international.

Job Requirements:
- Minimum 10+ years industrial experience or equivalent alternate experience as senior EHS subject matter expert with 3+ of those years in a supervisory role
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Demonstrated experience with Federal, State and Local OSHA regulations
- Proficient in MS Office applications specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated ability to apply expertise and results in development, implementation and sustainment of enterprise programs
- Experience managing at scale in a geographically dispersed, multi-site, matrixed organization
- Demonstrated experience with analytics software
- Project management/change management experience
- Ability to present to all levels in the organization, including senior leadership and executives
- Demonstrated effectiveness in communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, consulting, teamwork and leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in H&S field
- Professional certification in safety, health or environmental e.g., CSP, CIH, etc
- Experience with vendor and/or budget management
- Experience working in the travel & leisure or hospitality industry
The expected Total Compensation for this role is $111,900 - $151,320 + annual bonus + equity. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
