Coker University is accepting applications for the position of Director of Student Engagement in the Student Services division. For an energetic person who is excited to build an engaging student experience with creative student leaders, this is a full-time, 12-month administrative appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes a benefit package.

The Director of Student Engagement is responsible for the development and oversight of a robust student leadership program within a vibrant set of Student activities. At all times, the Director models respect for student concerns, respectful engagement with University constituencies, and supports the University's mission. Utilizing exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, the Director establishes collaborative relationships within the division as well as a variety of campus resources beyond Student Engagement and the Office of Student Services.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Within the Student Services division, this position will create, develop, and provide oversight of Student leadership and social initiatives. Specifically:

  • Develop, implement and benchmark a student leadership curriculum, programs and concepts for the campus community to support Student Engagement within the University's academic mission and goals.
  • Encourage curriculum and co-curriculum programming opportunities specific to diversity, inclusion, and Title IX in collaboration with the Title IX Coordinator and the Director of Diversity, Interfaith, and Inclusion.
  • Be aware of risk management policies and support training for student government and organizations in conjunction with the Department of Safety and Security ; advise Student Services colleagues as appropriate.
  • Train and serve as the staff adviser for Coker's Student Government Association and work to infuse SGA representation across the University.
  • Serve as the co-adviser for Coker's student clubs and organizations ranging from service, cultural, political, religious, and special interest.
  • Organize campus wide student events such as COW Days, Fall Formal, and Crew Races and work with the office of Alumni Engagement on Homecoming.
  • Collaborate with the Student Success Center for new student orientations.
  • Instruct CU 101 classes as needed.
  • Develop and coordinate biannual training for student leaders and faculty advisers.
  • Work collaboratively with the other divisions of the University (such as Dining Services, Success Center, Diversity, Interfaith, and Inclusion) to expand civic and community service locally and through national opportunities, i.e., alternative service breaks.
  • Manage, track and oversee multiple budgets ranging from student fees, campus programming, and student organization budgets.
  • Maximize the impacts of the shared purpose of the College Activities Board (CAB) and SGA.
  • Assist with on-site support and supervision of events.
  • Work collaboratively on large campus and community events to maximize Student Engagement and experiences.
  • Serve as part of the on-call rotation for crisis or critical incident response.
  • Serve on appropriate committees or councils as assigned.
  • Engage with appropriate regional and/or national professional development organizations.

Experience & Qualifications

A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field of study is preferred.

Five to seven years of relevant experience with student programming and/or orientation is strongly desired.

  • Evidence of the ability to design, implement and assess training and programming curricula.
  • Understanding of the liberal arts mission, and/or commitment to learning and supporting an educational model focused on the whole person and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrated success in the area of program coordination and student organization advising.
  • An ability to be creative in times of changing circumstances.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in an organized manner.
  • Basic proficiency with technology and social media; previous budgetary management.
  • Ability to communicate successfully with people from diverse backgrounds and an expressed commitment to uphold and further the University's mission and Standards of Service.
  • A commitment to student development theory and the changing needs of college students is essential.
  • Demonstrated respect, support, and encouragement of diverse and inclusive teams and decision making
