Job Overview:
The Director of School Turnaround is responsible for managing and coordinating supports for a portfolio of districts which serve schools that have been designated as Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI), Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) and Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) schools.
The Director of School Turnaround will plan for and deliver on high-priority initiatives connected to school improvement, SCHOOL TURNAROUND, and school accountability. This individual must be an excellent communicator and be extremely organized. They must be detailed oriented, have sound judgment, and be able to develop and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders. The ideal candidate should have prior turnaround school experience at the school and/or district level.
The Director of School Turnarounds most important role is developing, coordinating implementation of, monitoring, and adjusting the state-administered supports for schools that have been identified as the lowest performing in the state.
A successful candidate must understand, and support implementation of the conditions and district support necessary for successful SCHOOL TURNAROUND and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement and manage federal and state improvement grants, including application development, application review, and program monitoring.
Monitor the implementation of federal and state improvement grants including conducting visits to evaluate and monitor district and school practices and structures and school instructional practices.
Develop and coordinate internal and external resources and supports to assist districts and schools in developing and implementing their grants and improvement plans.
Provide on-going technical assistance to districts and schools to ensure intervention strategies are aligned to prioritized needs identified in the district priority plan, meet the ESSA Tiers of Evidence, and ensure compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
Analyze district and school performance data to identify trends and insights leading to actionable strategies and/or tactics.
Communicate with districts, schools, and other stakeholders about the school improvement designations, available supports, and accountability structures.
Participate in school visits and monitoring to learn about and share promising practices.
Hold regular performance routines with districts and schools related to turnaround strategy implementation and effectiveness and sustainability.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master of Science or Master of Arts in education or related field.
Required Experience:
Minimum of three years' experience at the school or district level managing or leading school improvement, preferably for students in historically underserved student groups
