CFS has partnered with a growing company that's looking to add a Director of Purchasing to their team. Our client is an Employed Owned company (ESOP) that offers an excellent culture and wonderful benefits! The Director of Purchasing directs the procurement and purchasing operations and strategy to provide the materials and services to meet the organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. This position is also responsible for evaluating and developing strategic supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain.
Director of Purchasing Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, supplies, and acceptable substitutions.
- Assesses current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery system, and other variables.
- Collaborates with other departments when necessary to problem solve, troubleshoot, and learn new products through a “hands on approach.”
- Prepares and processes purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Drafts, explains, and implements instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management.
- Develops and manages supplier programs.
- Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
- Maintains and/or implements purchasing and recordkeeping systems.
- Maintains and/or implements auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable company policies, industry standards or governmental regulations.
- Acts as the company’s representative in negotiations with suppliers.
- Coordinates removal or disposal of surplus materials.
- Implements and maintains sourcing processes within the organization.
- Maintains an elevated level of organization to ensure timely completion of projects, proper turnover of inventory, and proper compliance of Purchasing policies.
- Administers a budget of $50.0M+ annually.
- Identifies and implements, independently, cost, efficiency, and quality improvements in the Total Supply Chain.
- Manages several ongoing projects simultaneously.
- Hires, trains, and manages buyer staff.
- Mentors with the buying team to impart knowledge resulting in the growth of the team’s knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Administers discipline and termination of associates in accordance with company policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Director of Purchasing Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
- 6-10 years’ experience in a high-level Purchasing
- 2 years’ or more managing a team of buyers (preferred).
- Experience creating structured sourcing processes within a mid-size organization.
- Prior Material Planning and Inventory Management within an Automotive Manufacturing family or similar industry, required.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Must possess an Entrepreneurial Spirit.
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of organization.
- Able to demonstrate understanding of Purchasing’s effect on the Organization’s bottom line.
- Able to learn new product types.
- Basic knowledge of machining, applications, and engineering design.
- Ability to develop relationships and work professionally with new and established partners.
- Ability to demonstrate strong negotiating skills.
- Ability to understand, develop and manage supplier programs.
- Demonstrates exceptional communication skills.
- Demonstrates a deep knowledge of the overall departmental function.
