Los Angeles (3 days in office, 2 days remote)

The impact you will have…
As the Director of People, you will advance the strategic and operational people initiatives for Power California 501(c)3 and its sibling 501(c)(4) nonprofit, PowerCA. Your work will touch every aspect of the employee life cycle and enhance the overall employee experience. You’ll supervise and lead an HR Generalist and collaborate with all departments of the organization to ensure our people processes enable all staff to work toward our collective mission in a supported and inclusive way. You’ll use your depth of experience in broad HR strategy and functions to provide sound recommendations and solutions to enhance the organization’s goals.
How you will spend your days…
- Engaging strategically with executive leadership team to understand core organizational priorities and goals, and aligns HR strategies to support
- Overseeing all recruitment, acquisition and onboarding/offboarding programs, ensuring process efficacy for hiring managers and a high-quality experience for candidates and new hires
- Developing thoughtful approaches to promote diversity and inclusion in talent attraction, development, engagement and retention
- Partnering with executive team to develop and execute effective workforce plans and staff development programs and initiatives
- Providing leaders with thought partnership and recommendations related to engagement and performance management
- Overseeing all HR operational processes and programs, e.g., merit and promotion planning, performance management, employee relations, career development and headcount planning
- Managing relevant compliance components, e.g., workplace safety and anti-harassment training
- Supporting change management and engagement initiatives
- Providing employee relations support to all staff; conducting investigations as needed
What you bring…
- 5+ years’ experience in an HR Leadership or HR Business Partner role, with strategic planning and supervisory responsibility
- Excellent understanding of and demonstrated application of HR principles and functions, state and federal labor law and equity principles
- Demonstrated success in managing talent programs and employee relations
- Strong influential and cross-collaboration skills
- Excellent verbal and communication skills, with ability to communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
- Nonprofit, fundraising, 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4), grass roots, lobbying experience
- Excellent time management and organization; working well both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with shifting timelines
- Experience working/partnering with young people of color, low-income, immigrants and refugees and/or LGBTQIA+ communities
- Strong computer literacy, including experience in Microsoft suite and Google Docs
- Some evenings and weekends required, primarily during campaign seasons
- Has cell phone with adequate data plan and home internet connection with adequate speed
