Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director of Patient Care Services is responsible for the overall direction of the hospice services in collaboration with the Administrator and the DPCS. He/she is responsible for the employment of qualified hospice personnel; is responsible for the provision of hospice services, directly and the delegation to and coordination of hospice personnel evaluations; is responsible for establishing standards of care to comply with federal and state regulations and guidelines. The Assistant Administrator, in collaboration with the Administrator and/or DPCS, establishes implements and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy.
Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities include the following:

- Participate in the development of financial and/or operational goals and actively contribute to the achievement of assigned financial and/or operational goals
- Organizational responsibilities: Operational planning and budgeting. Ensuring organizational compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements. Monitoring business operations to ensure financial stability.
- Personnel Responsibilities: Ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing who are current with clinical information and practices. Directing staff in performance of their duties including admission, discharge, transfer, revocation and provision of service to patients. Ensuring standards of ethical business and clinical practice are maintained.
- Staff Development Responsibilities: Ensuring staff and organization stay current on local and national hospice issues and trends. Ensuring supportive services are available to personnel. Ensuring new staff all attend orientations, in-services, continuing education, competency testing and performance improvement as needed.
- Communications Responsibilities: Establishing and maintaining effective channels of communication including integration of technology, as applicable. Conflict and complain management and resolution. Coordination with other departments, services and management, as appropriate.
- Patient Care Responsibilities: Ensuring that interdisciplinary care is provided. Ensuring actionable objectives are derived from evaluation of hospice services and personnel. Ensuring collaboration with agencies and vendors for effective management of services.
- Outcomes Responsibilities: Ensuring that appropriate service policies and procedures are developed and implemented to accomplish identified outcomes. Monitoring operational progress toward accomplishing operational and strategic goals. Ensuring appropriate data collection and regular, complete reports are received by the Governing Body.
- Physical Plant Operations Responsibilities: Ensuring adequate space, equipment and supplies are available and planned for future growth. Ensuring appropriate staff supervision during all service hours.
- Financial Responsibilities: Ensuring services provided by other agencies are authorized by hospice. Monitoring service utilization to ensure delivery of comprehensive care. Evaluating hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes and objectives.
- Interdisciplinary Care Responsibilities: Ensuring that structure and systems promote high level effective interdisciplinary care goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Must have an active Registered Nurse License in CA.
- Degree from an accredited college or university in healthcare or related field preferred.
- Two years required experience in Health Care Management with supervisory responsibilities.
- Knowledge of corporate business management and federal conditions of participation regulations including the updated conditions of participation announced in 2008. Clear understanding and knowledge of principles of hospice and palliative care as they specifically relate to Valley's Best Hospice.
- Must have insightful grasp of and working knowledge and capability to apply Medicare Hospice Certification principles.
- Has excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills and has ability to organize and prioritize daily activities and to work independently.
- Demonstrates an ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.
- Current California driver's license and proof of insurance. Driving is required
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $110,000 annually to $125,000 /year ; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, licensure, skills, and experience.
The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
