Summary
Responsible for the direction of department staff, facilities, budget, and other resources to provide quality of life programs and services for both citizens and employees of the City of Lancaster. Oversees and is responsible for all Parks & Recreation department goals and objectives as outlined operationally by the City Manager's Office and by City Council initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruiting, hiring, and managing administrative staffs.
- Responsible for the preparation, allocation, and oversight of the departmental budget annually.
- Monitors budget expenditures and revenues.
- Develops and communicates departmental objectives and goals.
- Solicits and organizes citizen input related to various departmental activities and services.
- Develops and manages contractual agreements for approved consulting work necessary for the completion of departmental projects and operational services.
- Allocates and adjusts resources as needed to meet scheduled work plans and projects.
- Manages the administration and scheduling of Parks & Recreation facilities to meet City objectives and funding parameters.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Manages three subordinate supervisors who supervise more than fifty employees in the Recreation, Parks, and Building Services Departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree highly preferred.
