POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW
Title: Director of Outreach and Shelter
Reports To: Executive Director
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8 am - 5 pm some evenings + weekends
Compensation: $110 - $120K
Job Classification: Full Time, Salaried Exempt
Union Representation: This position is not a union represented position
The Director of Outreach and Shelter provides strategic and programmatic leadership for our Outreach and Shelter site-based programs and serves as an integral member of our team that plans and prepares for the agency's expansion and growth. This position will ensure the delivery of quality services to all clients on a 24-hour basis and oversees the programmatic activities and budgets for the Outreach and Shelter Programs. This position supervises the Associate Director of Shelter and Outreach Program Manager and is responsible for developing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of community partners with a particular focus on providers in the Hennepin County Emergency Shelter Collaborative and Hennepin County Coordinated Entry System.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS
  • Provide leadership and support to the staff providing outreach, shelter, welcome center services and housing advocacy to people experiencing homelessness.
  • Develop and maintain robust agency-wide emergency shelter programs, including development and implementation of additional program sites.
  • Ability to build a strong high performing culturally competent team.
  • Provide ongoing supervision for Associate Director of Shelter and Program Managers.
  • Identify ways, with leadership team members to coordinate program services, improve services, problem-solve, and develop client resources.
  • Establish and maintain active working relationships with community partners and funders.
  • Represent Agate in meetings with other agencies, businesses, government, funders, and community partners.
  • Manage the financial resources of the programs within the budget.
  • Ensure quality file keeping and case documentation by direct service staff.
  • Oversee program reporting, ensuring that programs are on track to meet contractual goals.
  • Ensure that services offered are compliant with Federal, State, and County guidelines, and contracts requirements.
  • Respond to changing community needs and incorporate best practices throughout the programs.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and other programmatic teams to vet, credential, equip/supply and conduct training for all Outreach and Shelter staff to provide exceptional support that is culturally competent for all guests and program participants.
  • Flexible hours are required with the need for 24/7 emergency availability rotating with team members.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement for the programs.
  • Maintain standards for HIPAA compliance with all client communications.
  • Ensure that the required evaluation systems are in place.
  • Must have the ability to interact effectively with all populations served.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
95% Sedentary work - Sitting most of the time with occasional walking and climbing stairs. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
5% Light work- mostly standing with some sitting. Occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven plus years' experience supervising staff working with people experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to build Knowledge of and experience working with Hennepin County Coordinated Entry System.
  • Fluency in languages used by other clients (Spanish, Amharic, Oromo, Somali, ASL) preferred.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethics, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates skill in understanding of cultural differences.
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.

REFERRAL BONUS PROGRAM

Agate Housing and Services offers a $250 bonus to employees who refer qualified candidates for current openings. The referring candidate must clearly state the name of the employee who referred them in the section of the application that requests this information.
The Referral Bonus Form must be submitted to Human Resources no later than 30 days after the referred employees begin employment. Any Referral forms submitted after 30 days will not be processed.
To be eligible for rewards, candidates must be hired as permanent full or part-time employees (this excludes on-call, employees, temporary employees, interns or contract workers).
