Office working conditions with some regional and state travel required. Due the nature of the work associated with this role, work hours may include weekend and/or evenings. The Assistant Veterans Resource Director's work schedule must be coordinated to cover requirements and/or events outside normal business hours Monday through Friday (0800-1700 hours) and, when necessary, weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

Minnesota State University Moorhead has received the Department of Education ( DOE) grant to fund our Yellow Ribbon Student Success Center. The funding amount awarded is $453,424 to be implemented over a period of three years (FY2022-2025). The purpose of the Assistant Veterans ResourcesOutreach Director position is to provide leadership over this grant which will include implementation of the project goals, maintaining grant compliance with reports, technical trainings, attending mandatory conferences, and working collaboratively with the program manager from the Department of Education.
The Assistant Director is also responsible for providing support to managing the project budget, marketing the program, implementing MSUM Yellow Ribbon Strategic Plan, and leveraging various strategies to recruit and retain military veterans and military connected family members. This role will report to the Veterans ResourcesOutreach Director ( VROD).
The MSUM Assistant Veterans ResourcesOutreach Director works in collaboration with the VROD to direct, plan, and organize all veterans' services initiatives and to ensure that the university's vision, goals, and objectives are being met to become the preferred choice for higher education for active and retired military-connected individuals.
Building upon MSUM's current Veterans Resource Center, establish a Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success as the single point of contact coordinating comprehensive support services for veteran and military-connected students. Serves as the Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success Outreach Director, overseeing the development and maintaining of healthy relationships with campus, community, military, government, and corporate partners, overseeing and implementing the MSUM Yellow Ribbon Strategic Plan. The Assistant Director will assist with monitoring the strategies and interventions of the program for increased enrollment, retention, graduation, and employment placements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus two years' experience working in a complex work environment OR Master's degree plus one year of professional experience.

  • Professional experience providing services to veterans and knowledge of veterans' resources and legislation.

  • Administrative knowledge, event planning, experience managing budgets, understanding budget spreadsheets, and other budget management tools.

  • Ability to work effectively in a veteran-oriented, team environment, have the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, work collaboratively with other campus organizations, and work with minimal guidance.

  • Excellent organizational skills and experience in planning, coordinating, and hosting/facilitating outreach events/activities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to understand federal, state, and university procedures and policies for grant management and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Three years advanced professional experience providing services to veterans and knowledge of veterans' resources and legislation

  • Experience working with confidential information and an understanding of Data Privacy, FERPA, and HIPAA regulations.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of student record processing, and academic policies and procedures.

  • Competence to conduct both long-range and short-range planning.

  • Highly developed communication and human relations skills and a sensitivity to all facets of the college community.

  • Crisis and advising skills to recognize varied personal situations and provide appropriate information and referral.

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated competence in critical thinking skills.

  • History of grant writing and management or a strong interest in grant writing.

  • Ability to organize projects and tasks, initiate action, and work independently within the parameters of the position.

  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills, budget experience and management skills.

  • Research and evaluation abilities sufficient to determine effectiveness of project strategies and processes.

  • Ability to exhibit intercultural competency and work with diverse populations.
