Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College, as a comprehensive institution of higher education, dedicates its services to area citizens. Southwest is seeking to hire an individual to serve as Director of Operations. This role will direct, manage, and supervise all aspects of the College's Facilities Department and operations.
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Unit supervision
- Facilities Administration
- Liaison to Campus Police for emergency management coordination
- Grounds /landscaping oversight
- Inclement weather process navigation
- Budget and project planning
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of physical plant operation, maintenance, and in principles of construction.
- Working knowledge of safety procedure and OSHA requirements in all areas of maintenance and facilities operation.
- General knowledge of various trades.
- Demonstrated ability to read, understand and interpret various policies, procedures, and blue prints.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all customers/stakeholders both orally and in writing.
- Must be proficient with computers and in possession of strong administrative skills to include budgeting, project planning, work scheduling and personnel management.
- Knowledge of building codes and standards of construction.
- Able to remain professional under stress and work alongside employees as needed.
- Demonstrated experience working from plans for improvement or alteration of buildings and equipment.
- Experience resolving complex trade problems and recommending improved methods.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of a varied group of skilled and semi-skilled workers while serving as a resource to others.
